June 5, 200620 yr Hi,First of all, let me start by saying that my PC is running as good as it's going to get, especially FS9. I'm also one that does not like to tinker around when there's no need to. Last week, a little icon pops onto my toolbar with the message "Support for WindowXP SP1 ends October 10, 2006". I've had this computer for almost 2 years now, and I keep all my software and drivers pretty much up to date, so I'm assuming that they're all SP2 compatable. Is this the time to upgrade, or should I just forget about it?Thanks in advance,Lawrie
June 20, 200619 yr If it aint broke don't break it. from what I understand service pack 2 is mostly security fixes. Unless you run a server, internet banking,or store any other "sensitive data" on your computer you will likely not benefit from the update. Of course, this is if you already are running a good firewall (one of the things service pack does is turn on the windows built in firewall). I have gotten attacked for my anti upgrade attitude in the past and I'm sure others will give you different opinions but this is the way I have run my systems for over 3 years with no problems with viruses or other malware. I am running Windows XP with service pack 1 behind a router/firewall on 3 of my 4 computers on my network and don't need or want Microsoft support. I know several people that installed service pack 2 and it totally messed up their computers while others it made no difference. My laptop came with it installed and works fine but I don't run FS on it. (my only puter with SP 2) so the choice is yours.Regards, Carlos
June 22, 200619 yr I never had any problems with any MS SP, but I maintain my machines at least on a weekly basis. If there was a patch for a FS add-on, you'd install it without a doubt as well.
June 22, 200619 yr I installed SP2 when it first came out and keep up to date with all the security upgrades. I've never had a problem because of sp2...other issues, yes...(g), but not sp2.Sherm
June 23, 200619 yr I decided to do the update. For the most part, it went well and from an FS9 standpoint, all is well. The only issue I have at the moment, is that when my daughter logs off, it takes forever to switch back to me. Frequently, I have to shut my PC off and reboot it. My PC is stand alone (not on a network), with both myself and my daughter as users with administration rights. Fast switching is enabled. Can't figure out why it does it.Lawrie
