FS9/Vista report

Featured Replies

Finally got around to installing the Vista Beta 2 build 5384. For this, I resized the data partition on my second disk (SATA 150) and created and formated a 20g partition for the OS. Intent is to dual boot with my production Win XP Pro, which is on a partition on a pair of SATA 150 Raid 0 drives.I d/led the beta ISO and burned it to DVD. Trying to install from a DVD boot failed. Based on some net reports, this is not uncommon in a nvidia raid environment. As others reported, I was successful by booting into my Win XP and then starting the install on the DVD. At the appropriate place I was prompted in install my NForce3 SATA and raid drivers (F6 floppy from Win XP install but revised by nvidia for Vista) and then was offered a clean install into my new partition. From this point, install went without a hitch. After the install I wizzarded through the setup options.First thing was a look through the device manager -- 0 problems reported. In fact, everything was working except my Saitek X45 stick.Hardware:Msi K8n neo2 plat w/ AMD x64 3500+ winchesterinternal AC97 sound and modem2xSATA 150 raid 01xSATA 150firewire attached PATA133 drive (prolific I/O chip)ATI 9600XT 256mbUSB mouse / keyboardUSB HP officejet 7130 printerSaitek X45My sammy LCD was just installed as generic PnP monitor. After playing around over 2 days, the Saitek controller was recognized. Don't know if it was something I did or not. Haven't tried to install the profiler for it yet. Likewise the Logitech mouse and G15 keyboard, just using MS defaults so far. After doing some basic fiddling, went to install FS9 off the CDs.Did the minimum install without problem. Game started right up. Then applied FS9.1 patch and finally the standard method for not needing CD4.Set some basic settings, then went flying in the 172. Unfortunately, found that in windowed mode, any view change, or text on screen (such as brake message) locked up the display (sim was still running. Alt-Ent into full screen restored the display. Tried some various things but no joy -- windowed mode just won't work. I d/led some other ATI Cats so might try an install of those.Edit: should clarify that in windowed mode, the desktop and everything else was working, just the FS9 window contents were frozen. Note that FS9.cfg and the other stuff that was in C:Documents and Settingsusername is now in C:UsersusernameAppdataRoamingMicrosoftFS9.I wanted to get my Win XP FS9 install to work, so I copied over my FS9.cfg, regedited the flight simulator path to my previous install, and created a new shortcut pointing to that copy of FS9. Started up but got dumped to desktop by the LevelD license manager. Disabled the LevelD dll (for now) and continued. My full FS9 install was up and running. Only thing noted (so far) is that FSUIPC and WideFS weren't recognizing their key file.In Vista is a new "games" folder:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/152450.jpgThe 2 instances of FS9 is my new install and my Win XP one. Not sure the "games" adds much from what I see. While windowed mode isn't working right, the 3dFlip is kind of cool, though not sure how to use it (default scenery and a/c):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/152452.jpgbut, it is up and running. frames don't seem as bad as I as afraid of (FSG mesh, Lago PHNL, Mega Hawaii):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/152451.jpgscott s..

Well thats good to here. One question related more to Vista though, how do you use the flip 3d function? I just can't figure it out.

Other than hitting "windows" - tab to start it, and going "ooooh" I can't see the point to it myself.I got my registered FSUIPC/WideFS working no problems.Had to create a manual printer port for my network laser printer. Once I got the port set up vista found the printer and installed the printer drivers no problem.scott s..
