July 19, 200619 yr I am convincing myself, slowly, that a new rig is not unreasonable -- maybe in the fall. Two questions:1. Excluding monitor and speakers, what should I expect to pay for a machine that will run FSX comfortably? (With what add-ons, we can't say yet, I guess, since it's not clear to me what will still be necessary. For example, will FSX have UT-quality rivers, lakes and coastlines?)2. I just read this http://tinyurl.com/kf8ec on FSX and DX10. Assuming that I won't be able to afford another motherboard/processor upgrade for a couple years or so, should I wait until DX10 cards are reasonably priced, and when is that likely to happen?I realize these things can't be predicted exactly.
July 19, 200619 yr - CPU $350 (Core Duo 6600)- Mainboard $60 (nVidia nForce5)- RAM $150 (1GB DDR2, 2GB preferred)- HDD $80 (SATA, 160GB)- Case $80 (Aspire Q-Pack)- GPU $200 (nVidia)Grand Total: roughly $900, if you build it yourself.Hope this helps. Good luck!Pat

But I do think that a lot of cheaper cards (<$200) DX9 will persist, since many of those users are not interested in DX10 or DX10 games. However...Maybe initally, like Q1 of 2007, DX10 cards will command a high price. But I think it would be unusual if ATI or nVidia were slow to cater to all of the new Vista users that will appear then.So if I had to *guess* I would say that reasonably priced ($200) DX10 video cards will appear in Q2 2007.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
