August 29, 200619 yr I have just bought a new rig. What is the best way to migrate my FS2004 stuff over? I have a ton of payware, and megs and megs of scenery etc. Don't want to re-install all of it, and don't want to spend hours and hours re-downloading. Can I make manual registry edits, or just install the game raw, then copy over the FS9 folder?
August 29, 200619 yr >>or just install the game raw, then copy over the FS9 folder? That's what I do. I do the same for addon directories under program files, because that way all my settings and nav database updates are preserved. Then I run each addon to see what works and what doesn't, and reinstall them only if required. It still takes a few hours, but at least it's not the few days it would take to otherwise install it all from scratch for a big FS installation (assuming you can remember everything you've added).Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
August 29, 200619 yr Hmmm- ok. I have a network with 2 macs and 2 winxp boxes. I have the old computer setup to share FS9 folder and I can easily log in to that computer on the mac. I have no idea how to access it from windows however! I can 'see' it (at least it's workgroup), but when I click on that in 'my network places' it delays then says network path not found- you may not have access permission etc. How do you force two windows machines to contact each other???-totally confused (but again appreciating my macs)
August 29, 200619 yr Do this first.1. Copy the FS9 files that are in C drive to the same location in your new C drive.2. Copy all of the FS2004 folder file to the drive with the same Letter of the original folder.3. There is a program about re-registering FS2004 that would re-establish FS2004 in the new computer.4. Run FS2004 - most everything should work. What does NOT - you can re-install.5- I remember that I copied my whole FS2004 folder to an external drive and ran it from there - it worked.Abe
August 29, 200619 yr Abe - thanks. My problem currently is to get the two windows computers to talk to each other!! Can't seem to make that happen. I have the old one configured to share files (specificall the FS9 folder), and can log in no problem using a Mac. However, the new WinXP (media edition) computer refuses to 'see it'. I put the new computer in the same workgroup as the old (they are connected through a router), and still it will not detect/log on to the old one.Ran the network setup wizard - no luck.-baffled.
August 29, 200619 yr OOps - my bad. I had a firewall on the old computer that was set to allow some addresses, but not others. Took it off, and all is fine...copying now.Abe - what is the program to 're-register' FS9?
August 29, 200619 yr I am not sure but I think it is called "FSpathREGISTRY.zip". If you cannot find it listed like that, I suggest you use partial words like FS Registry.......Abe
