windycloud.."Chuck, that's because I listened to you and bought the last 4000+ from them for $135. Haha!"I swear...That is exactly what I was thinking...I was like..Dang...I was gonna get another one for myself also...I go back to check...They are gone...Man..What luck..he helonghaul747.."I am not real impressed with AMD at the moment for discontinuing every socket 939 chip with an L2 Cache of 1MB."I can expand on this(sorta)...Only problem is...I forget all the finite details...I read all about this a while back...So I'm gonna keep it *Real General*...I didn't really grasp all the "Technical Details" anyway..as they were over my head...But..In a nutshell:AMD Processors design doesn't rely on large amounts of LVL2 Cache...Their speed and performance comes from the processors built in memory management/memory controller...Apparently it's a wayy more efficient...Their design is far more leading edge and high tech than Intels...Problem for AMD...Intel made "LVL2 Cache" sorta of a "Buzz Word"...Stressing the importance or benifit of "Lot's of LVL2 Cache"...(Which Intels design does rely on...Apparently far less efficient)..We all fell for it...Myself included...With the release of C2D...AMD(Apparently) decided...Their processors don't need 1mb lvl2 cache(They did it more form a marketing stand point to begin with)...lvl2 case is expensive...They would drop all of the "mainstream" processors with 1mb of lvl2 cache..The FX's will still carry 1mb lvl2 cache...Soooo...This is Very General...There are allot more technical details I can't remember nor understand...I read all this at a well respected guru type website(I forget which one)...I just remember thinking the info should be right on due to these guys reputation...Sorry for botching the explination soo bad...But maybe it shed's some light?? Or NOT??---------------------------------------------------------------------"My shop lied and did not have the 4400+ in another store like they said (already sold it).""Wow they are disorganized!!!They do in fact have the 4400+ processor. It was pre sold but they did not bother to see who's name was on it. It was pre sold to me!!"That Cracked Me Up!! :-lol Good Luck..Hope you enjoy your upgrade!!

I got the new computer yesterday afternoon. After spending some time setting it up and fighting my IP getting it to work its all good now. When it comes to the windows environment my new computer is freaky fast. Everything launches very quickly. Contrary to some fears and theories regarding Microsoft's online registeration scheme I had no problem installing it on my new computer. I was a bit nervous during the online registration process but it took it no problem. I assume they let you do a certain number of computers per license or perhaps as many as you want from the same IP address. I have not spent a lot of time flying FSX yet but my observations are mostly positive compared to my 3200+ with the ATI Radeon 9800XT 256 video card. FSX does look a lot better on my new machine. No doubt the 7600GT is a more advanced card here. Sliders are mostly mid level. Like any other machine today cranking all sliders will bring it to a crawl of coarse. Overall performance seems about the same. I never backed up my slider settings on my old computer. So its hard to say how it was adjusted before. Interestingly the frame rates seem to average lower on the new computer however overall performance feels smoother. Things load faster on the new computer and this helps with performance. My old computer things would be a transparent green until the texture was loaded. Eithier the DDR3 memory is helping here or perhaps the 2 gigs of ram. One thing I do notice is more stutters at times then before. However my original install of FSX on my old computer was just as bad at first. It seems FSX will smooth out as the textures and buildings plus whatever is loaded and built in the program for the first time. I suspect after playing it for a week it will smooth out. Overall not a bad upgrade. I don't think it was really worth it if my old computer did not die. However it does work better and look better then my old system.

The core duos are faster on the charts referred to BUT I think it comes down to: Do you want Intel or AMD.I've not seen many charts with FS as a benchmark mostly because it'sa different animal and I've seen a number of folks in the forums complaining about horrible performance (maybe their expectations of theircore-duo were to high) with the core duo and FS while I have seen folkshappy with mid-range AMD's.So again when your talking FS its an animal that's always been hardto tame.I think it's a matter of processor preference + the right components as far as ram and graphics and a couple scoops of luck thrown in.May the framerate gods be with you.Craig
