ATI X800 XT, span mode, and 2d cockpit/panels

Featured Replies

here's my situation... i have an ATI X800 XT and just got two 19" widescreen monitors that run at 1440x900 each. i downloaded the latest catalyst drivers a few days ago and successfully combined the two displays into one virtual monitor using CCC's span/stretch mode. the resulting desktop runs at 2560x1024, 32-bit, 60Hz. the native stretched resolution should be 2880x900, but it doesn't seem to be available. anyway, it's not a big deal. the desktop is slightly stretched, but not bad at all. now here's the problem...when starting FS2004, the main window comes up and everything is fine... with one exception. when at the "create flight" screen, the rotating 3d image of the selected aircraft does not show, nor does it appear when selecting an aircraft. interesting, but again, not too big of a deal.next, when loading a flight, the 2d cockpit view is loaded by default. now, i fully expected the 2d instrument panel to look completely stretched across, but everything is so blurry and out of place that it's impossible to even use this view. so i cycle to the VC and everything is ok... BUT if i am using the VC and decide to hit Shift+1, Shift+2, etc. in order to bring up some of the 2d panels, all #### breaks loose again, giving me an incomprehendable screen. and as soon as i close that panel, everything is back to normal in the VC. tower and spot views are ok as well, unless i decide to try bringing up a 2d panel.it's perfectly possible to fly entire flights in VC mode, but i like being able to view my 2d panels from time to time. any ideas on what's happening? i can run FS2004 perfectly fine if i use each monitor independently of each other (i.e. cockpit view on one monitor, instrument panels on the other). but i do enjoy the ultra widescreen effect. is this a limitation of the graphics card, drivers, etc?thanks!

Can't explain your weirdo graphics behaviour, but the fact that my ATI card won't run the span modes I want to use with my dual 22" LCDs has given me reason to defect back to nVidia (again :-lol) to run the show properly.Gary
