October 18, 200619 yr Dear all, After long discussions with a computer supplier in the neighbourhood I gradually come to the conclusion that updating my current system (dell dimension 8200 1Gb Ram with nVidia Gforce ti4600 video) is not too good an idea for now. I intended to wait until next year for a new rig but Fsx (and my personal desire to have it running fast today) are pushing me towards different ideas.I know that existing technology is not specifically designed for Vista and DirectX10, but what is currently the ideal specs for a - for Fsx specific rig - which gives nice fps consistently - and on top of that, where hardware can easily be updated for future proper and direct 10 and vista capabilities.Pleas give me a hint on what is sensible to do.Greetz svb
October 19, 200619 yr If you have time and patience, Read up on how to build your own PC. Or atleast get away from companies like Dell that make non properatary PC..where you cannot upgrade with generic PC components. Also lear about Overclocking. You would be able to buy a $350 processor and run it faster than a $1000 processor. As of today,...a Core 2 Duo E6600 processor (or anything in that family) with 2 Gig of RAM would good to run FSX smooth with sliders to the 80% range. But addons are another matter. No one knows at this stage. There isn't much room for addons.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 19, 200619 yr thing is, my Dell was so far a great machine (the best I ever had). That the system is approaching its 5th anniversary is a reason for being difficult to improve (so that I could buy a new vista machine in 2007 when available).Dell put Rimm memory inside (expensive and less common) with the possibility that I have to replace also the existing 1Gb when I want to go from 1 to 2 Gb.And the video support is AGP 2x/4x. Find a good performing new card (512) where power also does not cause difficulties...BTW: building your own PC is not exactly what I feel up to.Is there anybody who is familiar with this and bought parts in Belgium and has good experience?
