Core duo myth

Featured Replies

dual thread doesnt means everytime ; and even usually , more efficiency performing...you can use 2 thread , and only be able to treat as many info as a single thread but no more, and not faster.it's the main problem of multi core gaming. Dont expect to have a uber optimized dual or quadri core game soon. or even , never ... some design can't be parralelized !you can't seperate thing simply like this , some of these thing , need previous thing to be done , before to be proceed. so , even if you separate task , the 2nd thread will wait until the first finishs his duty. however, these core 2 duo are great cpu , and, in regards of their usual overclocking capabilities, i think it's actually the best mainstream cpu.so if you own a 2 or 3 years old cpu , it will be time to upgrade. the major problem , at my POV , is DDR2 price. it's a common memory , overpriced and you need a pair of DDR2-800 for reach 3 ghz ++ with a C2D. globally, 500$ for a C2D 6300 with mobo & 2Gig.

>Are the latest core duo CPU really supported by fsx in>Windows vista only or also in XP ? in other words should we>wait for vista or upgrade now (I don't want to buy a new cpu>mem Mb combination to run fsx on 1 core only)FSX using dual-core CPUs is not a "myth." It is currently enabled, as other posters have verified. Whether it results in significant performance enhancements in its present form is a different question. At the Avsim Conference, I had a fairly lengthy chat with one of the ACES Team leaders on the subject of multi-core CPUs. He said they had enabled as much as they could get to work successfully in the release version of FSX -- from what I gathered, multiple cores can take advantage of certain scenery and terrain processing, but not much else. He said they had tried to enable more multi-core features for FSX but experienced some problems with the new code. So they implemented what worked at the time of release, and they're hoping to include even more multi-core features in the "Vista update," but this of course depends on the success they have with rewriting the code. Bottom line: multiple cores have a lot of potential in FSX, but doing more than is available now is a significant programming challenge. It's a work in progress, and they want to get it right.

Hello there,Yes you can.In fact, I'm doing this for some time now for Fs9 and it works great. In the past I ran two PC's. One for Fs and one for all goodies like RC4,ActiveSky,Flightkepper....Now, my laptop sits idle below my desktop and everything runs from one PC.FS9 on one core, everything else one the second.hope this helpsLuc Brusselmans
