LCD regular or wide??

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm in the market for a 20" LCD and am looking for some input on how a wide screen works with FSX and other sims. What do you think? Thanks,

Hi,you might be better off with two 17" LCDs. The Area is much larger than one 20" screen and you can customize it to your needs in fs.Christian

Wide screen certainly does benefit sims like FSX. About 30 minutes ago I just plugged in a Samsung 40" wide screen LCD and I'm still in awe looking at a monster screen after having a 19" previously on it.It all depends on how much of the cockpit you want to see on the screen. The wider the screen, the more cockpit you'll see.

I bought a 20" Samsung SynsMaster a couple months (or so) ago, and love it. Now, I almost wish I would have gone larger.Couple things to keep in mind though:1) I only fly in VC mode, so everything is fine (various pop-up gauges/gns units had to be resized). But, if you run in 2D, you may not like the 'stretched panel' you get (in FS9 at least). But for me, VC on a wide screen with my TrackIR is pretty darn 'cool' ;)2) I run at 1680x1050 resolution. *That* eventually got me video card shopping again, as my 'old' X800GT wasn't getting the job done, (my fps dropped more than I desired compared to my old 1280x setting w/my standard monitor). So, I picked up an X850XT for a good price, and that took care of that issue for the time being. I'm not running FSX yet, so purchasing a $300-500 card wasn't necessary, nor very wise at this point IMO, given the upcoming DX10 card releases. If you have a video card comparable to the 850XT, or you are willing to run at lower resolution settings, you might be OK. If you are running FX10, you might have to consider that as well.
