November 8, 200619 yr When I read the requirements for FX some of the possibly "other supported hardware" is not listed. The hardware that is really needed to run FX with the sliders advanced and knowing the system will also need to be good enough to carry the extra overhead of a weather program, flight planner, scenery, your favorite addon aircraft, TrackIR, throttles, buttons, switches, two or more monitors, ATC softwate, FSUIPC and other nice enhancement software packages that will be available for FX.So, for a computer upgrade or a brand new computer, it becomes a problem ordering the correct hardware. Intelligent choices can only be made if you know what is supported by MSFSX and the addon software packages. I cannot locate this information. Maybe software engineers would know where to locate it. You really need this type of information for the operating system you have and all the programs you are going to use. In reading the posts I noticed alot of hardware choices available now for upgrades/new systems. Some may not be needed because FX does not currently support it and may never be able to support it without a major patch. Or, it is years away. Some may be needed if Vista (32/64bit?) is in your future. Some of the hardware/technologies I have read about in this forum are:Single processor/Single threadDual processors, Dual processors with dual cores, Quad processorsDual processors with multiple coresVarious types/models of processors for Intel and AMDVarious processor speeds (GHz) 1, 2, 3 and higher GHzMultithreadedHyperthreaded1GB, 2GB, 3GB, 4GB for 32 bit OS32 bit OS systems (MSXP) canot use certain amounts of memory64 bit OS can use more than 4GBHard drives in various GB sizesVideo memory 64, 128, 256, 512MBWindows Vista will run FX better than Windows XP 32 bit/ 64bit?So, using all these (and more) buzz-words not listed, what is actually supported (actually used today) and needed by Windows XP, MSFS9, MSFX, and MSFSX? For example, If Core2Duo (hyper, multi, thread, quad processors .... whatever! buzz words here) are not used by FX I sure would not want upgrade/purchase in that direction! When you go to a vendor site to compare hardware you usually get a number of columns of data on the screen so you can see at a glance what is supported ... like PCI or PCI-express, one monitor or 4 monitors. It would be nice to know in plain simple english what technologies/hardware are required, which are supported and used today to get FX flying like FS9 is now flying.
