Overclocking transformed my FSX

Featured Replies

Hi allLike the rest of you I wanted FSX to run better so as I used to o/c a little years ago I thought Id have a go with my current rig (specs at end)Well cutting the story short I can now run 10-15 fps 1600 RES all sliders max - yes autogen too and over the SNOWDONIA DEMO HAVE SEEN UP TO 50 FPS THOUGH THIS VARIES FROM 15-50?wHAT DID i DO? TELL YOU THE TRUTH iM NOT THAT SURE BUT i GOT MY amd vENICE 3500+ TO 2.55 G @ 28 DEGREES STABLE.I think I increased memory bandwith from what it was - I believe this is what makes the sim run betterhere is HMTL from CPUZ so techies can see.Processor(s) Number of processors 1 Number of cores 1 per processor Number of threads 1 (max 1) per processor Name AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Code Name Venice Specification AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ Package Socket 939 Family/Model/Stepping F.F.2 Extended Family/Model F.2F Brand ID 4 Core Stepping DH-E6 Technology 90 nm Core Speed 2555.8 MHz Multiplier x Bus speed 10.0 x 255.6 MHz HT Link speed 766.7 MHz Stock frequency 2200 MHz Instruction sets MMX (+), 3DNow! Well FSX scales quite well with CPU speed when talking about the same CPU architectures. My X2 3800+ runs 24/7 @ 2.7 GhZ (a 35% increase over stock) and the difference is really appreciable. Can't say I get 35% more frames, but it certainly feels much better. What doesn't feel good is that even with all that overclocking this CPU is in the same league (at best) with a stock E6400 :-violin Edited to say that you should set your command rate to 1T. Vassilis

TBH its not really a surprise it runs better but is this entirely cpu or memory also mine was set at 166 now 215 I think so that was clearly under its potential. I going to see if I can get 2.6-2,7 from this with care of course.I could spend money and upgrade cpu but its always nice to get something for nothing and its fun lol.I did have mem problms at first but this stabilised with volt increse as one would expect; no freeze up , crash or temp issues so far tonightRich

Faster memory always helps. Did you see my edit about the command rate? BTW, If you are on air don't exceed 1.55 vcore, or 55c under load, whichever comes first ;)Vassilis

>What doesn't feel good is that even with all that overclocking>this CPU is in the same league (at best) with a stock E6400>:-violin >hehe. Well yes but an E6400 is about 2 generations ahead of a Venice core, so he's doing pretty well. :)I too benefit greatly in FSX from my overclock. Recently pushed it to 230 x 11 = 2530 mhz, which is only 15% over stock, with 1T timing and stock voltage. I should work on getting more mhz which I think I could do if I worked at it more. Anyway it gives me about a 15% boost in frames, too. Enough of a boost to make me happy.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian
