Proposed Upgrade Considered, Any Comments?

Featured Replies

Still somewhat in the speculation stage, the following components are what I am considering for an upgrade primarily pointed toward FSX. I may scratch my posteria until something else is available that changes the whole ball game, but this is my present consideration: I am not sure of the particular part no. for memory yet as the Asus link for compatible memory is down for sync. right now so those part no's. may change.I am also still debating whether to splurge a little deeper and go for an E6700 or even ultra processor, and/or the 8800 series video card for at least the primary. From what I read, the E6600 seems to be the best bang for the bucks and overclocks a bit better than the E6700 allowing it to very nearly give the same performance. One big disappointment to me if I am understanding correctly is that SLI implementation negates multiple monitor in the traditional way we have done thus far with FS9. I seriously doubt that I will ever take advantage of that feature due to that fact. One wonders if in future days, that loss will be remedied. If they will fit, I probably will be implementing third party cooling that I already possess on my present system with a Kingwin cooler for the primary video card (which i doubt will fit-hope hope hope) and a Zalman CPU cooler (Which probably will fit).Another speculation on my part is whether the MB in question allows the combination of PATA and SATA HD's in Raid 0/1 configurations. My present Asus board does (Blue PATA Conn.) Specs. don't really say, but the configuration looks similar to my present board.MB Asus P5N32-SLI SE DeluxeCPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600MEM Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400MEM Corsair TWIN2X1024A-6400Vcard XFX PVT71JYPE7 7950GTVcard XFX PVT71JYPE7 7950GTPS TMLake W0106RU (700 Watt 56 Amp)I would be interested in any knowledgeable input relative to the experience anyone has had with these components running FSX.Thank you:RTH

I believe I read somewhere on this board that the 8800 was faster than a 7950 SLI setup. Somebody had experience with both (his dad had the SLI, he had the 8800).Be careful to check that the memory is compatible with the motherboard. I've read lots of people who purchased 800 MHz memory that didn't work with the MB.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

I've now read a few more comments on newegg that a single 8800 is significantly faster than a 7950 SLI setup.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

Hello Thomas:I think I have just about convinced that the nForce 650i Motherboard with one 8800 video card may be the way to go (Probably the GTS model). If multi-monitor capability is lost for FS, SLI is out the window anyway as far as I personally am concerned. Thanks for the input.RTH
