January 13, 200719 yr Hi allWould someone please confirm what I intend to do will work and give me safer results and more stable on line performance. For the past 2 years my Broadband as been connected with a speedtouch USB ADSL dial-up Modem.I have had problems while using the online weather feature in both FS9 and now in FSX.This usually occurs when the mbps dropped to below 600 mbps, It can vary between 400 at lowest up to 2.5mbps My line supplier says my line is capable of delivering 7.5mbpsI have a extension from the main connection box to the Computer room but this was fitted by a qualified telecom engineer. What I propose to do is replace the USB ADSL modem with a Ethernet -based one.I have decided to use the Netgear DG834 ADSL Router,Modem,Firewall and 10/100 mbps switch.I have two (RJ-45) Ports supported by Marvell Gigabit Lan Controller. Will it be OK to connect the modem to one of these or will I have to buy a separate PCI ethernet card.Sorry for been so long winded but I want to be sure of this. All the bestRex
January 13, 200719 yr What you are proposing sounds ok (but check the Netgear is ok for your type of line (in the UK that would mean BT or Cable). However, don't see why the new system would improve your problems with weather files which is more likely a problem with system network congestion.--Bryn
January 14, 200719 yr Hi Bryn.I seems as you are correct with the system congestion. And I am now in the prosses of migrateing to a better ISP.After a lot of googleling I have found out that a USB adsl dialup conection is also prone to problems So I am changeing to ethnet conection.Thank you for your reply.Rex
