Advice for sought for an interim upgrade ...

.. for a P4 3.0 HT, 1.5 GB dual channel RAM (3200), ATI 9800XT 128MB (AGP), Win XP SP2 system?Won't buy a new PC with VISTA and 2/4/8(?) core CPU until at the earliest Q3 or Q4 2007. I'd like to see how Vista/Vista Patch for FSX, CPU's as well as DX10 GPU's shake out before I buy a new system. But meanwhile I'd also like to get a better FSX performance with what I've got + a few reasonable upgrades. My BIOS (on this system) is dumbed down so OC'ing the CPU is out of the equation. Upgrading the CPU probably as well.I'm looking at the ATI 1950 PRO 512MB(Sapphire) to replace the 9800XT.I'm also considering upgrading RAM to 2 or 3 GB - and uncertain if going from 2 to 3 GB will make any noticeable difference?

I recommend doing nothing. Seriously, your RAM is pretty close to optimal (2G seems to be FSX's sweet spot - 1.5G is close enuf), whilst your video card will boost FSX performance marginally it will not transfer to your new system (ie. AGP versus PCI-E), and to buy a better P4 CPU than you have now you'll pay more than you need to versus waiting to buy the new gen stuff. Hang on for just a few more months and a bit more info.Gary
