February 12, 200719 yr Greetings!A friend of mine sent me this list of components, that his son ordered from NewEgg, for his new FSX only rig. Not being too tech oriented myself, but having read all your posts over the past 2 years, I think it's a good selection. However, as FSX is so CPU dependent, I was wondering about the 2.6Ghz AMD processor he selected.??? Is it strong enough??-----------------------New for FSX (only) computer components:1 x Thermaltake Eureka VC8000BWA Black Chassis : 1.0mm all aluminum Front bezel : Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case 1 x AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADA5200CSBOX 1 x Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM1 x ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink - 1 x CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400 1 x EVGA 640-P2-N825-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3 PCI Expressx16 SUPERCLOCKED HDCP Video Card 1 x PLEXTOR 18X DVD
February 12, 200719 yr Besides the fact that there currently is no system that is strong enough to handle FSX, it is a very, very nice high-end system. All very good quality components from excellent companies. Some might argue that a Core2Duo processor would be the better choice for FSX, but personally I am still impressed with the AMDs for now.I noticed that there is no soundcard on the list. However, if the on-board sound is a Realtek or C-Media chipset, then he should be all set, as there is little difference nowadays anymore compared to the $100+ sound boards, except if he's planning to use it professionally. If required, I would not recommend anything Creative, but would go with Auzentech board instead.Good luck,Pat
