  1. Not very impressive here, but I'm getting great graphics and pretty darn smooth game play since I installed Steve's DX10 Fixer(best ever). Don't fly the complex planes, just Capt Sim, QW757 lite, default ac using default GPS navigation and flt planning. Also have FS Genesis, GEX, UTX, ASN, UT2, FSDT & Fly Tampa airports, GSX. FSX settings are pretty high as well. http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/11350740 Stephen -- so glad you are posting again. Always enjoyed your thoughtful, intelligent, knowledgeable, super polite posts from years back. Not a techie sort, but have been grateful for your insights and have learned quite a bit from you and all the other gurus here as well! I miss guys like Phil Taylor, Costa, Tech guy max, Nick N, Paul Johnson and many others who have disappeared. Thankfully we have Martin W, Westman(occasionally), Steve Parsons, Rob(P3D) Jim(moderator) and a few others stepping up. Thanks all! Bruce
  2. You can also use FSX Instant Replay instead of FSRecorder, although Instant Replay doesn't show AI aircraft. I don't start FSRecorder until I decide to record a segment of the flight where I'm too busy in the cockpit to switch back and forth to outside(other views). If you record the entire flight with FSR it would take forever to replay the entire flight to get the desired video clips. You can use FRAPS to record any cockpit video clips at anytime during the flight, or any outside clips at any point during the flight when you have ample time to change views. Just before I get too busy to switch views, like takeoffs and landing I pause the flight, start FSR, set it to record with no time limit, and then go back to the flight. When cockpit demands ease up I pause the flight, stop FSR and save the file(called frc file). Once it is saved you can go to that frc file any time and play it to make your video clips(for that segment) with FRAPS. It's best to play frc files when you are in the area that the recording was made because FSX has those scenery files already loaded in the sim. If you fly DEN to SAN and your at the gate in SAN with all the video clips made except for the take off in DEN(for which you made an FSR recording(frc), reset the flight so that your at the gate in DEN. That way all the scenery files for the DEN area are loaded in the sim and the frc file will play immediately. You may be confused about the difference between FRAPS and FSRecorder --- "The recorded flights are saved in a binary file format containing flight data and can thus only be played back inside FS. These files are not video files, so it is not possible to play them with a video or media player, or to convert them into video files." This from the website mentioned above - http://www.fs-recorder.net/ It is impractical for anyone to list all the features, quirks and uses here. You have get in the sand box and start playing. Trial and error will teach you a lot and you'll develop your own system. Start by making a folder in My Documents -- mine is called *Video Making*. Inside that folder I have folders titled - Video Clips, Video Clips 2, Video Clips 3, Video Clips 4, Screenshots, Screen 2, FRC, Project, Project 2, Project 3 and My Videos. You tell FRAPS to send clips to whatever folder(I use the folders for different segments of the flights so I don't have a zillion clips all in one folder). When I make FSR recording's I send the FRC files to the FRC folder. The project folders are for the video editing projects - I use Adobe Premier Elements for making FSX videos because MS Movie Maker can not handle FRAPS monster files. When your video is totally finished go back to those files and clean them out entirely because they are taking up a huge amount of storage space on the drive. One last point. Long videos are boring, and so are long video clips. Use 2-3sec clips and keep videos well under 10min. You won't even want to watch your own videos if they are too long. That's probably the hardest part to grasp! I'm still struggling with that --- after 15 years of making FSX, motorcycle and travel videos! Bruce
  3. I use FSRecorder only to record and replay the takeoffs and landings, not to record video clips. I use only Fraps to actually record all video clips and screenshots, and have been for many years. I have a modest system with an I-5 2500k and and a GT-580 GPU and I don't see much fps loss at all. My friend has a son who is a UAL FO on a 738 and he had a flight a couple days ago to San so we made this video of him landing. He got a laugh and we had fun. I'm not and advanced simmer so it's the default FSX 738 https://youtu.be/fofVyg-TiEI
  4. Greetings! I downloaded, installed and flew the freeware Honda Jet just now. Pretty slick little number!! No problems adjusting the panel view with shift/control + backspace/enter. High again Allen! Frank, I lived in Connestee Falls (Brevard), NC from 1998 to 2003. Loved it! Bruce
  5. The Concorde carried 100+ passengers and the fare ow IAD to LHR was almost $1200 in 1980! Bruce
  6. No thanks! I'll be 110 here by the end of May!
  7. Hey Allen!! How you is? Greetings from PHX!! We moved to Sun City West, AZ last July!! Don't miss the snow and the 5 month winters, but it has been cooler than normal here. El Nino I suppose. Still playing with FSX quite a bit, but can't get motivated enough to get into the sophisticated stuff. Jeff -- Allen and I were part of a group of flite simmers in the DEN & COS area. There were around 10 of us, a few years back, that met in Castle Rock about 6 or so times. The group fell apart due to distance, varying interests and differing opinions on how to conduct the meetings. GO BRONCOS and CARDS! Bruce
  8. Thanks for the response, Jim -- No, nothing like that. I tried to insert a screen shot of the report, but it was rejected. The end of the report was what I typed above. Bruce
  9. Jim - I ran this scan and got the following -- can you tell me what it means? Thanks - Bruce sfc /SCANNOW sfc /VERIFYFILE=c:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll sfc /SCANFILE=d:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll /OFFBOOTDIR=d:\ /OFFWINDI(can't see)R=d:\windows sfc /VERIFYONLY C:Users\Ownwe>
  10. I just spent 12 hours on this same problem. I was playing with updated Flightbeam KDEN and GSX on Saturday and all of a sudden I had a crash. I reloaded FSX and got to the aircraft selection and several times and then a crash. Then I would get a Fatal Error message each time I tried to load FSX. I had just bought and installed Flightbeam KPHX and KSFO and did a total defrag. I Un-installed all the Flightbeam airports and still got the Fatal Error message when the FSX Splash screen first appeared. After many hours of this I finally did a total un-install off all my addons and FSX itself. Last night at 10pm I finally got FSX installed and running. Now the tedious process of re-installing all the addons begins. I am very glad I saw this thread!! I just knew it had to do with Flightbeam somehow. I have a bunch of FSDT airportts that I un-installed because the airports lack taxi lines and the FSX yellow taxi guide doesn't work with these airports. These people have caused a lot of heartburn --- not to mention wasted $$$$$. Can these airports be used without the Addon Manager installed? Bruce
  11. On a Sunday evening back in the 70s I was on a United 727 going to Las Vegas from Denver, with a stop in Grand Junction. Had a window seat as usual. As we were climbing out of Grand Junction in driving rain there was a HUGE BANG and a bright flash of light that lit up the entire cabin! I felt electricity going down my right leg. The captain came on a minute or so later with voice shaking badly---said something about static electricity! Then minutes from LAS he came back on---voice still shaky---said we are going to the end of runway after landing and drop the rear stairs. Said leave the airplane quickly and get away from it. Do not collect your personal belongings!! Said we have had a report of bomb on board!! I'll never forget the look on the face of the lady in front of me as she turned around and looked at me!! Stark terror! The whole airplane let out a collective groan and then dead silence till we got on the ground in LAS. Apparently when we were taking off from GJT the crew got a call from UA operations and were advised that someone in Philadelphia (where the flt originated) called in a bomb threat. Then seconds later we got hit by lightening and the flight crew thought the bomb had gone off! (I saw this on TV and read it in the LAS paper the next day) I seriously considered taking the train back to DEN!
  12. I live here and it doesn't look that good! :(
  13. Sad doesn't even come close to describe what we all feel right now, Tom. Bruce
  14. Stan --- You can fix this by going to Weather, Custom Weather, then Advanced Weather and changing the cloud *base* to over 14,500ft and the cloud Top(can't remember actually term) to, say, 20,000ft or so. (the very highest mountains in Colorado are about 14,500ft). There will be no more cloud flickering. This has to be done before each flight if your flying over mountains. I don't know if it can be permanently changed in the FSX config. Bruce
  15. Maybe I missed it --- but should you change your Max Texture Load to 2048 from 1024?
  16. I just updated and left PHX for SAN. So far I see no obvious difference!??
  17. Great response and explanation, Maurice!! Very professional! Thank you!! Bruce
  18. Hey, Alan -- how you is? Bruce
  19. I've been playing this *game* for about 12 years and don't have the slightest desire, or intention, of ever *doing it by the book*. I start with engines running, and, if not, it's ctrl+e. I rarely use GSX anymore for that reason. When I post a vid on YT it's to send to a couple of friends who I worked with in the airline business years ago and I couldn't care less if anyone else watches it.
  20. I have V-Sync forced off, unlimited frames, and DX10 fixer. I never see any tearing and I am in locked spot view a good deal of the time.
  21. I believe it means -- *Release To Marketing*.
  22. It was close to midnight and Paddy was driving home from the pub when the constable pulled him over. Ya been to the pub, Paddy, the constable asked? Indeed I have, replied Paddy! Did you have quite a few pints? I did pretty good, says Paddy! Well, did you know your wife, Colleen, fell out of the car a few miles back? Oh, thank God, hiccuped Paddy, for a while there I thought I'd gone deaf!!
  23. Check this one out --- and read the comments below the video!!!
  24. If it has the *Lite* mode with the FSX default GPS navigation -- I'm a buyer! I remember going to Hawaii several times on a CO DC-10 with the *Pub*, pop corn, and Pac Man for a cocktail table!!
  25. That's Ed Cox's video. He's as good as they get. Check out his channel. He does his own painting and panel design. If you watch that on YouTube and click on *show more* you get this: Published on Mar 5, 2013 Cathay Pacific Boeing 747-300 Sim by; FS9 Model by; POSKY (freeware) Panel by; Edward Cox (not available) Paint by; Edward Cox (freeware) Kai Tak Hong Kong by; FlyTampa (payware) GSU's by; AES (payware) Real weather by; ASE (payware) Clouds/sky by; HDE v2 (freeware)
