February 14, 200719 yr I have Track IR4 Pro and am trying to use it with a MATROX TH2G set-up. I have two issues: first, my frames always take a hit using Track IR, down about 30% and sometimes 50%, which is depressing. Second, I can't really find a good configuration for this amazing device--it's just a bit too fast and aggressive or if it's slower, it feels as if I am on a mega dose of VALIUM.NaturalPoint asked me to try their new drivers a few weeks ago so I did and initially I thought the fps and fluidity were somewhat improved. Not any longer. I just tested with the Level-D 767 and frames fell from an average of 17 at KSEA without the device to an average of 9 with Track IR.I have fiddled with the config menus but can't seem to set it on anything I find entirely satisfactory. Mostly, I feel a bit "seasick" with Track IR and a panoramic view with TH2G.If anybody can suggest anything to make this work better, please post. February 15, 200719 yr JS,You may have noticed a video a guy called 'Bojota' did with TrackIR4, Vatsim and the Level-D 767. He sent his 'profile' to the Natural Point website for othrs to use.It slows the functions down to a useable level for bus driving = flying airliners. Its called 'Optimized Flight'. Download it and place it in your 'Natural Point/Profiles' file. Then select it in your settings. The normal Flight profile is probably best for combat sims where you need to keep your adversaries in sight. Dave Taylor
February 15, 200719 yr http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/04-com...ized_Flight.xmlTake a look at the other profiles in the profiles folder, you should have none over 4KB in size. Also, try turning of the Periodic News check, in the options menu of the TrackIR software. This can cause some slow down issues, if used in conjunction with anti-virus software.
February 15, 200719 yr Author Vince and Dave T:Thanks for your posts. I downloaded the relevant FS9 files including the Optimized xml which I shall try after dinner tonite. My FS9 PC is offline and has no internet and no AV or utilities at all. It is solely for FS9. I remain baffled as to why Track IR4 takes such a chunk out of its performance. It is a very hi-performing DELL XPS Gen 4 with massive processor power and a ton of RAM. Anyway, enough blabber; I shall try these files and report back. Thanks again. And Dave T, send some of your English Riviera weather to the Commonwealth of Virginia where it's severely iced-over (but not as severe as Minnesota)!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
February 17, 200719 yr Author I tried the Optimized flight profile and it works fine but my frames are still adversely impacted. Is it possible that the reason for this is because I am using a complex add-on such as the Level D or PMDG jets? Frames are consistently reduced by at least 30% using Track IR 4 Pro with my system which is very powerful for Fs9 nd runs it smoothly and fluidly almost all the time in various VCs. But the moment I activate Track IR, it's high speed slide show time. What could be causing this?JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
February 19, 200719 yr Shouldn't be a large hit to frame rates at all, as the TrackIR software running is a fairly small hit to CPU usage.Which version of the software are you running? Are you running any other add-on applications which have a head latency setting? (i.e. Active Camera, FSInn.....)
February 20, 200719 yr Author I am running whatever was the latest software as of 3 weeks ago that I downloaded from the NaturalPoint website. There are no other apps on my PC and nothing with a head latency setting. I just don't get it. When I plug in Track IR4, frames descend from 20-24 to 10 to 14 and remain substantially lower generally. It's incredible. Happens all the time with the Level D or PMDG 744.I simply cannot fathom why there is such a performance hit. Might any of this be related to having triple monitors and running MATROX Triplehead ? I use nVidia 91.47 drivers and have 1x24" and 2x20.1" LCDs.Without Track IR, my PC performs superbly and the fluidity of FS9 and all add-ons is excellent. Can't figure this one at all. February 20, 200719 yr Author eVGA 7900 GTO, not tweaked. I fitted it myself. It replaced the factory fitted ATI Radeon X850 XT PE. It has increased frame rates by about 50% and although not as refined as the Radeon in terms of graphics definition, it does have twice the RAM and is very good for improving fluidity of the sim generally. February 20, 200719 yr Author I use nVidia 91.47 Forceware drivers and have no plans to change them because they work very well for me.I already changed the drivers for Track IR quite recently and installed 4.1.029 Final.exe. They didn't seem to change anything much for me.I also installed the Optimized profile that I downloaded from Natural Point's website to see if that might alter anything for the better as well but no diff.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
