Hacking Your X52 / X52 Pro to Remove the Detents

If you're like me, you hate the detents on the otherwise fine Saitek X52 / X52 Pro. It would be cool if we could have the lower detent engage reversers or something, but we can't. And, I've never had a flight simulation program that would engage afterburner using the upper detent either. So all they do is interfere with smooth operation of the throttle.So I got rid of them, and it's really easy.The attached pics show the process (X52 Pro version, X52 is the same though).First, you remove the 8 recessed screws holding on the lower half of the throttle base. Then the base comes apart easily with the base as a separate piece of plastic, and all the electronics and wires attached to the upper half of the base.On the pic of the base, the little part (I shaded blue) is the detent notch. It's rectangular and fits in a rectangular channel with springs pushing it up...so it rubs the throttle axle, which has two bumps (circled, one for each detent).Just pull the little detent notch "bumper" out. Then reattach the lower base, and reinstall the screws.Now enjoy the buttery-smooth-stop-to-stop throttle.And, BTW, if you wondered why the X52 Pro throttle lacks the heft of the X52...The X52 throttle has 4 huge steel weights in it! Otherwise the construction is the same. They are screwed to plastic pillars on the base (you'll see them if disassemble an X52 throttle). The pillars are molded into the X52 Pro base also...like they deceided to cut costs after the mold was made. If you have an old wore-out X52, you can switch the weights into the X52 Pro and enjoy the heft of the former.

I can with my CH Throttle Quadrant. I use FSUIPC to assign the axis and calibrate the throttle and reverser. This should be possible to do with the Saitek as well, shouldn't it? But you need a registred version of FSUIPC.Ulf B

How do you like that setup? Is that the one with the pedals? How much is it for everything? Are you a real pilot? If so, do you feel that setup represents (or at least somewhat represents) a real aircraft? Someday I'd like to get pedals (maybe a yoke as well) but for now I have twist rudder and a CH throttle
