New NVIDEA driver... Can't seem to get it to work properly

Featured Replies

I have fiddled around for a good few hours now, trying to get the latest NVIDEA Driver to work anywhere near as good as the previous version.Am I missing something?I discovered ages ago to switch the AA on in the Sim and do that in both FS9 and in FSX... but with the new driver I can't get a quality picture. The old driver, 94.74 worked real fine so for now, I have changed back to that.Anybody know what is supposed to work better with the new driver and what am I supposed to be aiming for. For me, the new driver seems no faster than the old... and I have tried for hours to find a setting that will give me a reasonable picture quality in FSX...Is there a decent write up on using the NVIDEA control panel anywhere?I am not very good at taking in long winded instructions and find the Help included with the control panel worse than useless... (maybe because I am dyslexic). So I don't really understand most of the settings available. I just trial and error until I get a result... but no luck with this one so far.I would have put this in another thread below... but things seem a little heated there.. BruceMy spec is INTEL

>Is there a decent write up on using the NVIDEA control panel>anywhere? Here is the 46 page Control Panel guide written by Nvidia. http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/158....Start_Guide.pdfAlso I doubt you will see a speed increase with the new driver as FSX is CPU bound.

Here's a good link at NVIDIA that provides "optimum" settings for FSX per the NVIDIA techs: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_fsx_techtips.html. They also include suggestions for your settings on the 8800. I have used the settings and receive excellent FPS and visual quality with the settings. Anyway, they are a good start. I did up the Autogen and Scenery complexity back up to normal as the NVIDIA settings will take away all the buildings at airports. Not good...Best regards,Jim

Personally I'm not a fan of those recommendations. For one I would rather turn water down to low 2.x, and turn autogen up to dense. I much prefere the settings recommended here:http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/FSX_FPS_GuideWith the settings in this guide, I get 18-50fps on my system, depending onm the area.

Hi Bruce,I've had no problems with Nvidia's 165.01 drivers. Not sure if you tried them.Mike
