ATI Radeon X1950XTX with FSX Problem

Featured Replies

Dear Friends,I have an ATI Radeon X1950XTX with 512Mb of RAM on my system but even with the new Service Pack 1 for FSX installed the card is still running in uderclocked mode. This is the mode in which the card reduces its GPU and memory clocks up to 1/3 when in 2D mode, e.g. Windows desktop (I used ATITrayTools to watch the clocks during game play)FSX is the only 3D application that has this issue with the specific card, since 3DMark06 and other 3D games utilize the card's capabilities all the way up.I will be very pleased if you share some ideas, or even a solution to this.System Config:CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 @2.4GHzM/B: Asus P5W64 WS ProRAM: 2x 1GB OCZ DDR2 @ 800MhzGPU: Radeon X1950XTX 512MB RAM with Catalyst 7.3OS: WIN XP PRO

I have that problem running MS TrainSim and an X1950XT. For some reason the card deosn't see the sim as a true 3d app and runs the clocks at the slow 2d setting. My solution is to use ATI Tool and set its 3d detection to 'on' and if that doesn't work, manually load a 3d clock profile before starting up FSX.It's an extra step but it guarantees 3d clocks when running the sim. You can see the clock change because the screen shudders a bit. Hope this helps.

As always, rename FSX.cfg to FSX.cfg.OLD or something and start the sim to have it build a new one. See if that fixes it as it may be the old sim problem of the card not begin properly recognised by the sim unless it is forced by the absence of a line entry for the card in FSX.cfgAs a first step, rather than rename the whole cfg, suggest you just open it and delete all the information in the sectionDISPLAY.DEVICE.ATI Allcott

(I have dual X1950 XTX Crossfires.) In this mode I believe it is clocking properly, (although it's hard to verify!)

Thanks
