FSX locks up

Featured Replies

Hello!I have a big problem with FSX. When i start a flight, the temperature of my video card goes up quite fast, and after a while the game locks up. Then the screen turns into idel mode. I turn the screen off and then on again, and now it says that there are no video input. Then i have to turn the computer off by pressing and holding the power button for a couple of seconds, and when I turn it on again, Windows does'nt start. I have to wait for a time before the computer can be turned on normally again.Im not absolutely sure, but I think that FSX is making my video card getting too hot for some reason. I have the latest drivers for the card, and SP1 too. I have done a couple of things to make FSX run better. I have replaced AutogenDescriptions.spb with Matt Fox's edited version, and I have changed the value for TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT from 40 to 400, but it seems like the value has gone back to 40. Can any of these tweaks together with SP1 make FSX run worse, or it the problem something else? I appreciate all help i can get...Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs)2046MB RAMDirectX 9.0cNVIDIA GeForce 6800 Series GPU

Couple of thoughts. 1st, is the whole computer locked up or jus the video? If you tap your power-switch less than 4 seconds and the computer itself is still alive, it should gracefully shutdown. This is dependent on a setting in the BIOS usually found under "Power."Have you done any overclocking of the computer and/or video card? Back these down. I had to after applying SP1 as my timings were too tight as well as relaxe my FSB ratios.Try updating to the latest DirectX release (April '07). Check your apature for the AGP bus in the BIOS. Try making it slightly higher than what it is now. Also, I would change all setttings and files back to default FSX-SP1 until you get the box stable. Fix one thing at a time.Use some tools, like MemTest86+, Prime95, Orthos, and 3DMark06 to stess test your hardware settings and parts.

It seems like I've solved the problem myself by increasing the fan speed of my video card. But thank you anyway for taking time to answer!
