XP or Vista for FSX Deluxe?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!I'm going to buy FSX Deluxe, but my computer still runs with XP instead of Vista. Is it worth it to buy FSX Deluxe or should I buy FS2004?Thank you for your help!:-)

I cannot answer your question. The OS isn't the main factor when you choose between FSX and FS2004. Your hardware (CPU, RAM, Graphics card, etc) are more important.Post some info on your hardware and maybe somebody with a close enough computer will answer your question.I'm running XP and I won't upgrade to Vista until FSX DX10 patch has been released later this year.As far as I your'e able to run FSX or FS2004 on either XP or Vista. Benchmarks of some games on Vista indicate that games on Vista run a little bit slower. When DX10 is released this might change the scene regarding FSX.Ulf B :-)

Well, I'm a nVIDIA guy and can't estimate how FSX will behave on your system. Let's hope somebody with a similar setup may give you some advice on what FS version to go for.Good luck :-)Ulf B

Your system will have a problem with it....it will be sub-par IMHO...as far as the satisfaction level goes. Your video card and RAM will be a problem - especially running under vista.go XP for sure. See my specs, I have an extra gig of RAM and my video card is a little better.Even running on XP you will have to run with sliders at medium, to medium-low to get a "smooth" experience - ie 15+ in big cities, and 20+ in rural areas.

[1]Since you allready have XP, that would be enough reason not to purchase Vista, since XP is an excellent operating system which you have allready and you would need to incure extra expense to purchase Vista. [2]Though I have not run FSX under service pack 1 yet, FSX pre service pack 1 has a deserved reputation as a resource hog and if FSX resource demands remain fairly high even running under service pack 1 [ which I am confident they would ], adding Vista will only make things worse since Vista is a resource hog too! [3] Vista has no advantages over XP in respect of FS2004.[4]FSX running under Vista FSX can deliver Directx 10 graphics [ when the FSX Directx 10 addon becomes available ], the snag being you would need a Directx 10 graphics card, and Directx 10 cards are quite expensive. [5] My suggestion to you would be, use your XP operating system, don't buy Vista and decide for yourself whether you want to go for FS2004 or FSX. Personally I would suggest, FS2004 would suit you better, since your system will run very well with FS2004 but with FSX could have difficulties in respect of provideing a an acceptable frame rate whilst giveing high quality graphics in FSX, given FSX's hardware resource demands.Best and Warm RegardsAdrian Wainer
