Can I delete (reformat/repartition?) Vista, and install...

Featured Replies

Hi, I was thinking of buying a laptop on sale at newegg that comes with Vista Home preinstalled. I like to get rid of it completely, and install her XP Pro CD on it instead. Is this possible to do pretty easily?Noel

Noel,If, and I repeat *IF*, Vista won't let you install XP Pro AND you have a floppy drive, you can use this [a href=http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?journalid=F7DF81F5171E11DCA471438DA0E20ADD&docid=07302457082C47EDA1A8F9619885F51F]debug script[/a] to wipe the drive and then install XP.I can't caution you enough on how dangerous this may be if you type incorrectly or the drive is SATA. I've used it on both new Dell and non-Dell machines to get rid of pre-installed bloatware and then do a clean XP OS install with no problems, but only with IDE drives. Ymmv. There's also the possibilty that you can't reach the Dell link above...that could be a sign ;-)jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/]Windows utility links/FS 2004[/a]
