June 19, 200718 yr Since I got my new 8800GTS I had nothing but problems. New drivers, old drivers, FS9, FSX - makes no difference. The thing just doesn't tune in. Whatever settings I choose in the driver control panel, it scales back to application-controlled when FS is started.I read before that some people had AA problems. Seems this is common FS problem for the 8800GTS. I also have rough textures in the small window and smooth in full screen. Fine, but the thing is - it often just "jumps out" of AA and everything becomes rough-edged! Both FS9 and FSX.Adding to that, the nVidia support is virtually non-existent. I registered on their support forums and when got my password/keys couldn't log on - they say user doesn't exist (right after I registered!)I had slower FR's with my Radeon 850 card, but I swear there were no AA problems and textures looked smooth as silk.I dunno, I just think the nVidia product is a pure crap - good marketing coupled with actually bad product: U know like some payware sceneries you buy for EUR20 and they look worse that alternative freeware ones? This is kinda what I got for my 8800GTS.When I had my Radeon, I was flying the FS. Now I spent all this time trying to tune the friggin card!!
June 19, 200718 yr Try to downgrade your driver to the pre 1xx.x releases - something like the 97.78 set. People are reporting better results with these driver sets.Andrew
June 19, 200718 yr well what brand was the card? don't bash nvidia, there are plenty of satisfied users. It might just a bad card, or the manufacturer....you'll find the same with radeon's....just depends on what card you get | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 19, 200718 yr Usually the symptoms that you describe are not hardware/manufacturer/support errors, but errors that can be resolved with a simple reinstallation of the driver. I had similar problems and a *clean* re-install helped.I would suggest that you uninstall your current drivers completely, reboot, run Driver Cleaner (google it) and re-install the drivers of your choice.I concur that even the most current drivers for the 8800GTS are not the best ones. I still have some glitches when re-sizing or switching from full-screen to windowed mode, but I am sure nVidia is working on them. Keep in mind that the hardware is fairly new compared to the more established ATI and older nVidia cards. I know... it's no excuse, but that's (unfortuntately) how it is.Good luck!Patrick
June 21, 200718 yr Patrick, I'll try that (since i have no other choice being stuck with this card) but I have low hopes. The point is, I had 3 different ATi cards over the years and no problems with either. Once I spent money and upgraded to this "super hardcore top of the range" piece of crap, my Sim days were over. Now I am a professional tweaker, who's not doing so well at his job.Sorry to ####, but after 1.5 months of agony and hardly any flying I am just done. IL76TD
June 21, 200718 yr There is nothing wrong with the card, it's just a change in the way their drivers work. You need to do some research to figure it out. The settings are set in the driver and enabled in the game. The old drivers you could make all the changes in the driver and the game would use those settings but it doesn't work like that any more. I have created profiles for my games in the driver settings if they won't use the global driver settings. Its a royal PITA but it does work. Nvidia drivers do suck though and it's pathetic that 7 months after vista's release that they still don't have fully functional and reliable drivers.________________________________________________________________________________________________Intel D975XBX2 'Bad Axe 2' | Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.20Ghz | 2 GB Super Talent DDR2 800 | Big Typhoon VX | eVGA 8800GTS @ 565/900 | Seagate 2x320GB SATA RAID-0 | OCZ GameXStream 700W | Creative X-Fi | Silverstone TJ-09BW | Matrox Triplehead Setup
