June 19, 200718 yr Because I'm backing up my photos on DVD+R's. Are they ok, or should I do something else?I'm starting to really wonder what I should do as far as backing up photos goes. I almost want two copies, one with me, and one somewhere farther away, like my parents house or grandparents house, in case theres a fire or something.I would be heartbroken if I lost all my picsWhat do you guys do for backup photos? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 20, 200718 yr I don't think anyone is willing to say how long Data will persist on a DVD +R.. But technology will move on and DVD's will soon be as obsolete as Cassette tapes. The key to persistance of data is migration. Backup using todays technology and when a different medium comes along transfer it. Silicon is the technology of today...one day it will be replaced by protein..just like the brain. If you need more storage you will 'grow' a bigger 'brain'. Maybe it already exists and we're just part of the Matrix???Back on track...use DVD for now. Keep them dry and out of direct sunlight and copy them to newer disks after 5 years or to whatever comes along next!RegardsJim
June 21, 200718 yr Jim your right on.I had some CD's and DVD's i could not read that were written a long time ago. I needed a new drive so i paid a few extra dollars and got a multifunction Sony. It reads and writes ALL formats. It read all the ones i couldn't read with no trouble.I found Nero to be the best software, IMHO.Other company's make multifunction drives also.Buck
