Advice on FS9 settings with new video card

Featured Replies

Greetings,I have a P4 3.0 Ghz proc, 2GB RAM, and just installed a Diamond ATI Viper Radeon 512Mb AGP video card, running Windows XP Pro SP2.I'm using FS9. Still deciding if FSX would be worth it for my setup. I have the PMDG 737-800/900 package installed, which I use primarily while flying on VATSIM.My question to anyone that can help me is, what settings should I use for my new video card from the settings menu in FS9? I tried maxing out all the sliders right, setting my display at 1600x1200/32, and a frame rate of 40 FPS. When trying a test flight with a C172 from KTEB, I noticed most buildings had some funky diagonal lines moving up the buildings.Maybe I need to reduce some sliders or uncheck some options, but I'm not sure which ones. I've read some posts by members who are running in resolutions above mine, with sliders maxed, and are getting high FPS using cards with half the memory. What can I do to fix this? The driver I have is dated from march of this year, and I tried installing a later driver from ATI's/AMD's website, but after reboot I dropped to a Blue Screen of Death. So I reinstalled the drivers from the CD. Diamonds website has drivers for Vista for my card, but the driver list from their website for XP does not list my video card. Go figure. If anyone can offer any advice it would be much appreciated.Dave

Dave, your FPS's are great!Inside FS9.....Try putting the LIGHTS rendered to 8 and the slider just below that, the MIP Maps to a level of 3 or 4.You should also try BI-Linear instead of Tri or Anisotropic. With those settings on my rig, I have great scenery rendering and nothing of what you show. I DID have that until the above settings were made.----------------------------------------Also, MAX out EVERYTHIHG in the 3D section of your drivers.Your system and card can handle that.Mitch
