November 8, 200718 yr Dear FriendsI have decided to buy a laptop, specifically either the Dell Inspiron 1520 or the Sony VGN-FZ15G. I would like to know what would my expectations be in running FSX using an intel T7100 core duo 2 centrino CPU as is found in the Sony FZ15G compared to the intel core duo 2 CPU as is available in the dell inspiron 1520. I am inclined to get the sny machine even though the dell is better. My question is, would the sony laptop struggle to handle fsx and sophisticated add-ons (like systems heavy airliner sims and add on airports)? I believe that both offer decent nvidia geforce cards 8400 or 8600.All comments much appreciated..
November 8, 200718 yr I'll try not to sound too biased here, as I own the Dell 1520, however from an FSX standpoint they stack up as follows:CPU: From what I can find, the Sony only comes with the T7100 (1.8GHz), whereas the Dell can be configured with up to a T7500 (2.2GHz). With FSX, CPU is the main determinant of performance, so Dell wins this categoryVideo Card: The Sony only comes with the 8400 GS, whereas the Dell can also be configured with an 8600GS. Whilst GPU is not as important as CPU with FSX, an 8600 is the slowest I would go buying anything nowadays. RAM: The Sony comes with 1GB RAM, which will make FSX limp along in a Vista environment, whereas the Dell usually comes with 2GB.Price: The Sony comes in around US$2000, whereas the Dell comes priced at US$1250 - $US1550 (coupon dependent) configured to my 1520 sig system spec below.Quality: Sony has to win something here, so the quality front it is, but I'd say only just as my 1520 is a nicely built unit. Conclusion; Dell 1520 by a long shot!Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
November 8, 200718 yr I'd have to agree. About the only thing you get when you purchase a Sony is the ability to say that you own a Sony.If you go with the Dell, I highly recommend getting the complete care option. It's saved my butt twice.Granted I take my laptop everywhere with me. But, isn't that what a laptop is for?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
