November 28, 200718 yr Hi,I'd like to change my graphic card for better framerate both in FS2004 and FSX.I actually have a GeForce 7600 GT with 256Mo video RAM. I find that 256Mo is not sufficient, especially for FSX ! I'd like to buy the Radeon X1950 XTX 512Mo. According to you, is it a good purchase ?Here is my PC configuration :Athlon 64 X2 4200+Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9-RH2048 Mo DDR PC3200Windows XP SP2Thank you.;-)Damien - LFQQ.http://damiendelille.free.fr/Cliparts/Avion.gif Damien.
November 28, 200718 yr Before you go splashing your cash on a new video card with more memory, what makes you say that 256MB is not sufficient? In particular, what res and AA/AF settings are you using, as these will determine whether memory quantity is an issue for you?Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

November 28, 200718 yr Damien,I just did a quick check of FSX at your above settings and video memory use is definitely above 256MB at KSEA with the ultralite, even using default global high which used 277MB. Any higher FSX settings than this caused video memory use to head into the early 300s. So, yes it seems you will benefit from extra video memory, not to mention a more powerful card will give you better performance at these high AA/AF levels.Having said all that, I am not familiar enough with the X1950 to know if it is a good card for FSX. Tom's Hardware chart here http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_200...2=854&chart=291 suggests that an nVidia card would be a better choice, but I'm not so sure the ATI cards make FSX performance drop that much given the game is primarily CPU bound. Anyway, another option for just a few more bux is the 8800GT 512M card, which will also give you a foot in the DX10 door.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
November 28, 200718 yr Author There's also the ATI Radeon HD 3850 256Mo that appears to be a good graphic card ...Damien - LFQQ.http://damiendelille.free.fr/Cliparts/Avion.gif Damien.
November 29, 200718 yr But it does't get around the 256MB video RAM limitation you currently have.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
