New SLI hotfix KB945149

Featured Replies

A new hotfix is available for Vista from microsoft, KB945149 dated Dec. 3. Nvidia reccomended. Has anyone tried it?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945149

I installed it. Requires SLI/Vista installations. FSX crashed after the intial install, showed the old error msg "Display Driver has stopped responding and restarted again", then BSOD. Hadn't seen that for a couple of months!! Vista checked for solution and stated it was the NVIDIA display driver and recommended upgrading (had beta version installed). Reinstalled NVIDIA WHQL display drivers and no further problems. I see no dramatic increase in FPS so far. FSX seems to start up a little faster but can't be sure. Checked to see if it fixed any DX10 preview problems and it didn't. I would recommend holding off until VISTA, SP1 is released. However, you can always uninstall the hotfix if you're not happy (which I may do if I encounter anymore problems).Best regards,Jim

JimI understand that you have to request this from MS. Is the request process relatively hassle free?I have a Vista/ATI x1950's setup and am willing to give it a try.

The hotfix is all over the Internet. I can't give you a direct link (due to forum rules), but I found it with a Google search using 945149 hotfix as my keywords. I got it from the 2nd item down on the search list. You also might want to review some of the links as they link to forums which some discuss the good/bad of installing. Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim

>I would>recommend holding off until VISTA, SP1 is released. JimDid you happen to hear or see any news or rumors about when Vista SP1 might be released? Is it still set for Q1 of 2008?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

I requested and downloaded the MS one. It took about 3 hours to get the email from MS.I didn't have any problems installing it or running FS. Hard to tell if there is any improvement but it didn't seem to do any harm. From the MS description of the fix, I expect that it could possibly eliminate some micro-stutters caused by data transfer to the GPU's.My conclusion is the same as yours. Nothing earth shaking here that I can see.

"Did you happen to hear or see any news or rumors about when Vista SP1 might be released? Is it still set for Q1 of 2008?"Still 1st Qtr, 2008 and it appears to be on schedule. I believe the final beta (release candidate) is being released next week. More info here: http://www.techspot.com/.Best regards,Jim
