December 21, 200718 yr Jagabom/Jim- hope the following makes some sense and helps to answer your query on the topic of multi monitor FPS. Your mileage may vary.:)Data below was derived under these conditions-FS9 at KSFO R28R- Default scenery, DreamFleet Baron 58- engines running- ready for Takeoff.2D panel with all popups open, Day & Night times, Weather Theme- Fair Weather, AI=34%, Autogen Off, FS9 settings= mid range, Ultimate Terrain all settings active. FPS= UnlimitedAMD XP2200 1.8 GHz, 1.28 GB RAM, Dual Head AGP GeForceFX5200 GPU and same type single head PCI card. ACER 17" LCD & 2 KDS 19" CRTs.--------------------# Mons Views GPU Source Day/Night FPS Avge FPS % of single mon----- ------ --------- --------- -------- ------------------- 1 FWD AGP Day 26 100% Night 22 100 2 LFWD,FWD PCI/AGP Day 18 69 Night 13 60 2 FWD,RFWD AGP/AGP Day 16 61 Night 16 61 3 LFWD,FWD,RFWD PCI/2AGP Day 15 58 Night 12 54%Comments- Of special note is that with three times the number of pixels displayed, the FPS declines by less than half. In other words, the "quality" of total image (or total pixels) as seen by my eyes, is increased very substantially over single mon. This seems to explain why multiple views create such a profound enhancement of the sim experience. Another peculiarity is that under extreme conditions- night and very rapid motion such as landing at a major airport, FPS can briefly go as low as 5-6, yet complete flyability is maintained. Almost like a movie film running a bit slow but the plane behaves quite normally! NEVER allow a view or popup to overlap an adjacent monitor and ALWAYS return the mouse cursor/arrow to the main view. These are both very hard on FPS. The PCI monitor performs worse than the AGP mons for popups- generally avoid them on this mon- although SOME popups have no negative effect whatsoever!! Overhead and Com panels are hard on FPS. As you will observe, my system is pretty ancient- "Smithsonian" classhardware. I assume newer systems will perform substantially better.Merry Christmas from Vancouver Island Alex Reid
December 21, 200718 yr Author Well that's not much help! AVSIM deleted all the spaces between columns! I'll summarize- Single mon- day 26, night 22 FPSDual mon AGP/PCI- day 18, night 13 FPSDual mon AGP/AGP- day 16, night 16 FPSTriple mon PCI/2AGP- day 15, night 12 FPS or 58 & 54 % respectively of single mon FPS( I won't try a table again!!!! Hope THIS is readable!)Alex Reid
December 24, 200718 yr That's neat Alex. I am slowly working on a triple setup. Take time. New C2D comming 1st. In the new year.JimCYWG
December 24, 200718 yr Author Jim- happy to answer questions. I started messing with multi mons seven years ago- took another three to figure out triple views and how to synch them! Turned out that a 180
December 24, 200718 yr Hi Jim,I am thinking of a three monitor setup too. What is "C2G"?Regards, Christoph
December 24, 200718 yr Core 2 Duo CPU :)(or Crash to Desktop, but lets just hope for the Former meaning of C2D)
December 25, 200718 yr Heh :DThis is kind of on topic, I have two LCD monitors right, i currently use them for dual monitors, but how do i go about getting flight simulator to use them both? I can get FSCopilot/FSinn onto the other, but can i actually get GPS etc. over onto it?
