multi monitor support?

Featured Replies

I was hoping one of you experts might help me figure out why multi monitor won't work in either fs9 or fsx? The two monitors work perfectly in windows vista together and dualview is enabled with my 28" LCD as primary and my 17" LCD as secondary. When i start fsx the game starts on the correct monitor but if i try to drag the gps or any other thing like a control or radio stack to the 17" monitor then the game just freezes and locks and crashes. FS9 won't even allow me to drag anything at all to the 2nd monitor almost like it doesnt see it. FSX sees that there are 2 monitors but it wont use the 2nd one and crashes if i try. Anyone else get this to work? I see people using numerous monitors all the time so there must be something i am missing. I did install the fsx multi monitor patch as well but it did nothing.Another thing, why do i get such terrible shimmering in fs9 in the most recent drivers? AA works fine but there is no filtering going on at all and everything just shimmers. It just refuses to apply AF regardless of what i try. Anyone have any luck with the 169 series nvidia drivers and fs9 shimmering?my specs - core2, 2gb ram, 8800 video card.

FS 9 is more supportive of multi monitors. I set up my monitors for native resolution on the settings on the desktop, then do a similar thing inside the game. Dual view is also the way I have configured the monitors. My FSX works fine on 4 but crashes to desktop with 5 and won't even start with 6. I think this is a common theme but if anybody has some advice please let me know.

For FS9- Go into Control Panel/display/settings. You should see a schematic showing both monitors. Click/highlight the secondary mon outline, then see below a tick box- "extend my desktop across this monitor". Tick the box and now you should be able to drag any popup OR VIEW onto this mon. Don't forget to set the approriate resolution and click on APPLY at the bottom.Multi mon works just fine for FS9.Alex Reid

In FSX you have to be in windowed mode to use a second monitor it dont work in full screen.

>In FSX you have to be in windowed mode to use a second monitor it dont work in full screen. I use multiple (sometimes 2, sometimes 3) monitors with FSX in full screen mode just fine. In fact my frame rate is better in FS mode. I do have problems if I save a flight while in full screen. When restoring a FS flight, panels often come back on the wrong screen or I get a blank screen and it can be a pain to get things arranged properly again. As long as I remember to click over into windowed mode before saving, it becomes easier but the various panels have to be moved to their respective screens each time that I start. Multiple monitors are easier to use in Fs9. Interestingly, FSX demo worked best of all; something got changed in the RTM version.I use an ATI PCIe card and (sometimes) an ATI PCI card for the third monitor.R-

I now have 6 screens working at once.I have 1 and 2 as independent (dual view) and 2,3 and 4,5 as horizontal span. I'm only using 1 external view as the rest are panels. I'm mainly using a level d 767, modified to allow pilot and copilot at same time.My problem now is using touchscreens at the same time, they don't like spanned modes.I have tried this with Nvidia 8800gts and some other dual head ATI thing. I am hoping FSX will put out a patch to fix this but there is a minority of us using more than 4 monitors
