Radeon x1650..... HELP!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

just got the Radeon x1650. i had a Radeon 9600 and ran FS9 in 1024x768, 2D clouds and everything else maxed out to the right. also using the default boeings with the VC. with real weather i could be at most any airport takeoff and go with framerates 20-24 or there abouts. oh yea, AA was at 6 and it ran rock soild. i wanted to run at 1200x1600 but it wouldn't quite do it so i got the x1650 with 512 ram. OUCH! it runs worse with the same settings than the 6900, FPS are around 15 in the same locations and at 1200x1600 with AA at 2x i get 8-10 FPS. i've had this card for a few days trying to get SOMETHING out of it but so far all i'm getting is FRUSTRATED!!! i've got the latest and greatest drivers for it too. any suggestions? william AMD 3000 2.4 24in widescreen 40 gig HD

To be honest its not a very good card that you have bought. If your motherboard is still AGP your best bet would have been the X1950 Pro Rob

that's what i wanted to know. don't want to waste my time trying to get this card to do something it can't. how much better is the x1950 than the radeon 9600pro? i might get it. thanks rob, william

Hey William, My old PC specs were P4 3.2ghz 2 gig ddr Ram and X1950 pro 512mb. I could run fs9 all sliders right with the PMDG 747 and get around 20 -25 fps even in heavy weather. I upgraded to a quad core for FSX but went back to fs9. One thing to note with any card is hunt around for drivers that work well with your set up, newest drivers are not always the best so it's trail and error.RobAnother point - with 512mb on your graphics card you can up AA to 8x and AF to 16x and not get a perfomance hit

hi rob, that's good to hear. i may have installed the wrong drivers as i found some old ones hidden away but deleted them and tried to reinstall the new one. well i got it installed but now FS9 won't boot up. i'm on hold calling microsoft to see if they can help...fat chance but worth a try. thanks man, william

Have you gone into you fs9 cfg and had a look at the driver entry?

Rob Prest

yea, did that last night. microsoft tried to help but couldn't get it running correctly and said i should call ATI which i'll do today. thanks rob, william

Did you run the ATI driver cleaner? Better start from scratch. Then head over to Tiger Direct...

where exactly is that located? i have a friend on his way over to help sort this mess out, thanks. i have fs9 running now but the VC is blurry.

Gppg;e ATI driver cleaner. I think thats how O found it. More info about doing it too.

got it running now. i did a reinstall of FS9 and that seemed to get it. i'm still not sure about this card though. thanks, william
