January 24, 200818 yr Hi, I have noticed that when I use a program called CPUID to check my specs on my machine, when I click on the memory tab, My memory should say 333mz since im running 2gig DDR2 667 (Dual channel). However its indicationg around 220mz. Is there anything I could do to have the memory run at peak performace? Do I need to Flash the Bios? Thanks,Bill Asus Tuf Gaming Plus B550 - Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Asus GeForce 4080 RTX OC Edition - 64GB DDR4 (3600Mhz) - EVGA 850W Power Supply - 2X 1 TB NVME PCIE gen 4 - Windows 11 (25H2)
January 25, 200818 yr DDR memory runs at Double the Data Rate (DDR) of the Front Side Buss. A DDR2-677 designation only tells you the "speed rating" of the ram. For instance, if I have tires that are rated at 100mph they will not simply go 100 mph. They will go only as fast as the car. Their rating means they are rated to go 100mph before they blow up!First, what's your FSB? Check out CPUZ's "Clocks" section, "Bus Speed" line. That's your FSB. (Ignore the "Rated FSB" line. You'll notice it's only the Buss Speed X 4.)Now go to the Memory tab. Checkout the line called "FSB : DRAM." It is probably set to 1:1. If so, your ram is running at a normal ratio. DDR ram's normal ratio is 2 x the FSB. "What?" you say. "A ratio of 1 to 1 means it's running at 2 times the FSB?" Yup. If I'd made this stuff up, I would have certainly made it more sensible. In any case, don't mess with anything. Tweaking memory speeds will not add any discernible performance to your computer. It's certainly not worth the trouble.
