ATI vs 8800GT Image Sharpness: hands down, it's ATI

Featured Replies

This debate has raged on forever, and I guessed things had improved for nV, but I must say the 8800GT I have running now with this Samsung 204B doesn't hold a candle to the ATI x1950 Pro AGP I had running in my old box in terms of image sharpness. This is not a function of the driver either--even the POST screen is far crisper than with the nV card, and this was true for the 6800GT I had that died, its replacement from BFG, a 7800GS, and now this 8800GT. I think it has improved somewhat with the 8800GT, but the prize goes to ATI for my eyes. I think this card can in some ways look just softer, like a photo, versus the ATI looked almost unnaturally sharp. There is a subtle blurriness with the nV cards that was not present with the 1950.
