February 10, 200818 yr Hello Folks,I have bought a AMD 64 X2 3600 recently. I have installed all AMD and MS Fixes and Patches for Windows XP. I run a nforce3 chipset and a GForce 7600 Graphiccard.Now, I see FS9.1 running with both CPU Cores, but not more than about 55 to 57 % of what it could have. That tells me that FS only uses 2547 MHz at max, but it could have 4000 MHz - well higher than now.Why doesnt FS9.1 uses all what it can get?_______________________Regards, Torben HadlerBeta-Tester ACLoader 3 + 4http://www.fsflightdeck.com/acloader.htmlT-A-H MultiMedia Productions Torben Hadler - http://www.t-a-h.com || [email protected]: CPU: AMD 64 Socket 939 64 X2 3600 2x 2000 MHz | MoBo: MSI K8N Neo2 64 | RAM: 2048MB 400MHz DDR | NVIDIA GF7600 | Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 5.1Ch | CH-YOKE + Peddals; Primary: 17" Belinea TFT * Secondary: Philips 150S4 TFT 15" || Software: Display Resolution used: 1280x1024 in WinXP and FS9.1 | WinXP Pro SP1b (German Version); DX9c | FS9.1 pro (German Versions) - all sliders maxed about 85-95% | ever latest FSUIPC licenced | ASv6 | Alert!! pro | UT 2004 | RC4.x | FSBuild 2 | ACLoader 4.x and much more... February 10, 200818 yr That % figure you are quoting is the percentage of two, not one, core use. FS9 uses up to 100% of one core, which is 50% of two cores. The remaining 5-7% is being used by the OS and other applications. All is good.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 11, 200818 yr Author Well, Windows shows me not more usage than about 40% of the Core 0 and 20% of Core 1 or 30%/30%. I have games that use realy 100% of both cores. So, why does it seem that FS9.1 uses less as it could?_______________________Regards, Torben HadlerBeta-Tester ACLoader 3 + 4http://www.fsflightdeck.com/acloader.htmlT-A-H MultiMedia Productions Torben Hadler - http://www.t-a-h.com || [email protected]: CPU: AMD 64 Socket 939 64 X2 3600 | MoBo: MSI K8N Neo2 64 | RAM: 2048MB 400MHz DDR | NVIDIA GF7600 | Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 5.1Ch | CH-YOKE + Peddals; Primary: 17" Belinea TFT * Secondary: Philips 150S4 TFT 15" || Software: Display Resolution used: 1280x1024 in WinXP and FS9.1 | WinXP Pro SP1b (German Version); DX9c | FS9.1 pro (German Versions) - all sliders maxed about 85-95% | ever latest FSUIPC licenced | ASv6 | Alert!! pro | UT 2004 | RC4.x | FSBuild 2 | ACLoader 4.x and much more... February 11, 200818 yr Because FS9 was not coded to be multi-threaded - that's just the way it is. The OS can be tricked into running FS9 across two cores, but it is still running single threaded. The maximum CPU utilisation you will get by FS9 is 100% of one core, which is 50% of two cores, 25% of four cores etc.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 14, 200818 yr Hi Gary,Could you clarify for me how you trick the OS to run FS9 over two cores? If it really can split the process there could be a small performance boost (and I'm always after chasing those down) if you consider that each core will always be doing something else as well (background processes etc) - if FS9 is on one core it can have maximum 100%-background procs while over two cores it might get it's full 100% (of one core)... Geoff
February 14, 200818 yr Geoff,I am not sure how to do it myself, but there is some discussion of such a split in the following thread: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...pe=search#14595As heated as the discussion becomes, I believe the point that whilst splitting the FS9 load across two cores appears to give greater overall CPU utilisation, that extra utilisation is most likely handling the overhead of having a split single process rather than giving extra horsepower to FS9. As such, I don't believe such load splitting will be worth the effort.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 20, 200818 yr The best way to utilize both cores with FS9, is by setting affinity so that FS runs on one core, and all your add-ons run on the other. If you search the forums for "set affinity", you'll run across several posts that describe how to do this. Also, there's a free utility at http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/05/28/get...rocessing_buck/that will let you set affinity with a few mouse clicks and only requires that you to start the utility before running FS and your add-ons.EwingKATLAlcohol, Tobacco and Firearms should be a store, not a government agency.MSI K8N Neo2 PlatinumAMD Opteron 185 2.6 Ghz Dual Core2GB Kingston HyperX (2X1GB) Dual Channel DDR 2-3-2-6 @ 1TXFX nVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS 256MB DDR3 AGPSound Blaster Audigy LSSilverStone Decathlon 750W +12v@60A +5v@30AFS9 on WinXPPro (SP1)
