O & O Question

Featured Replies

Having read the various threads discussing O&O defrag, I remain uncertain if my Windows XP SP2 install - Microsoft OEM Win XP SP1 and the December 2007 network admin SP2 update - will support use of O&O as described by Nick_N.Can anyone "enlighten" me?Jim Harnes

NoI would not use it with that combination unless you are backed up and can recoverI can not say for sure it would crash the drive but the odds are better in your favor you do not run it on that.If you were to create a new WindowsXP SP2 full install disk using the one you have and 'slipstream' the SP2 installer into that (the one currently posted at MS) and then burn a bootable CD.. and after that, wipe your drive and install Windows off that CD, I would give you a green light, otherwise what you have may be a risk to use O&O. If you do decide to try it, please make sure you can fully recover as in a complete partition recovery backup.

Thanks! Will do just that with a new drive now ready for installation.Jim Harnes

If you have any concerns... please install all the proper drivers right after the new SP2 copy of Windows is installed, then install O&O defrag and run down the entire list I posted. When complete if the system is running fine and there are no crashes, your good to go.At that point install all of your software.. everything, clean out the startup system for things you dont need at boot from the software you installed, make SURE you go to Windows Update (over and over again) to make sure you have ALL the updates you need and then re-run the defrag passes again... every one of themEnjoy
