March 22, 200818 yr Hey guys, I'm a long-time flight simmer who recently took the dangerous jump from FS2004 to FSX. I really like what FSX has to offer, and I'd like to get my rig to a point where I can run it with acceptable FPS. Ultimately, I'd like to upgrade my complete system, but that's not really an option just yet. So, I'm wondering if a step up in the graphics card department could help until I'm ready to get a more FSX compatible system.Currently, I'm running FSX on a 4-year old Dell Dimension 4700 with XP Home, 2.8 Ghz, 1.5gb RAM, and an ATI Radeon X1300SE PCI-express video card. I've tweaked my config file to get 15-20 FPS in rural airspace, but the moment I approach busy cities, I drop to 8-10 FPS. Basically, my question is, could I upgrade my graphics card and improve my frames to a consistent 20+ FPS , or is an entire system upgrade complete with dual-core processors, etc, the only way to truly get the performance FSX can deliver? If so, what kinds of graphics cards would you recommend? Thank you all in advance for your suggestions.-Adam-
March 23, 200818 yr I think just a VC upgrade isn't going to do you as much good as you would hope. FSX wants as much as you can throw at it, and more. My system drops into the teens in big airports. As has been said in these forums many times, it is a question of balance.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
