May 9, 200818 yr Hi,My system is 3 weeks old and listed below. I received the OOM error after installing FSX and many add-on's. I applied the /3GB switch which solved the OOM error. However, eventually I get an apparent video memory overwrite. The corruption appears to occur randomly and not on every fight. The symptom is easy to describe. The video starts to break up with thin horizontal lines then quickly followed by a black screen. There is no recovery by Vista and the computer must be forced off.I suspected a bad GPU which VM agreed and sent a replacement card. The same thing happened with the second card. So, the catch22 is I get the video/memory corruption with the switch or an OOM error without the switch.I am running the following stuff on a typical flight:FSXFeelthere Citation XFEX (512mb clouds)GEXMy Traffic (25%)UTX (medium settings)Active Sky FSX version (updated)Goflight ModulesPFC throttle quadrantCH Flight Sim Yoke and PedalsOn a networked client:FS CommanderRadar ContactMoving MapI have run the 4 hour VM boot memory test with no errors. I ran the Hot CPU test with no errors. I tried both versions of the switch:bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 2560 bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072Have I in fact maxed my systems capabilities?Bob.. May 10, 200818 yr Run CHKDSK, then fall back to driver 169.25. No O/C's for now. The lag suggests a temp problem. Get Rivatuner and monitor GPU temp as you are running the game. Over 100C is a problem. To eliminate the memory factor, it might be time to move on to a 64 bit ops system.
May 10, 200818 yr Author Sam,Thanks and I may re-install the OS with Vista-64. The CPU and GPU are not OC'd. I have run nmonitor and the temps were 150F (GPU) which shouldn't be a problem. Nick,Thank you for the suggestion and I'll give that a try. Bob.. Bob Prince
May 10, 200818 yr Thats a strange one, you do have alot of extras in use maybe one of them is causing the OOM error, not FSX.I've been runnng FSX on Vista for a long time with the memory fix and never had an issue. If Nicks suggestions does not work, I'd think its one of your add ons or some other hardware. If it was my setup, I'd try ..reinstall Vista with just FSX SP2 then test and add apps one at a time, and see when the error starts..another video card ie a 9800 or something if you have a dealer with a return policy..another MB , ram , etcgood luck Processor: Intel Core i7 [email protected] Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX670 OC RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1866 [9-9-9-24-2T] Motherboard: Asus P8Z68 Pro / Gen 3 Best Ever FSX Tip: Adaptive Vertical Sync 1/2 Refresh Rate
