FS9 and Vista 32 DX10

Featured Replies

I had my dedicated FS raptor go bad on me abou a week ago so I decided to add 2gig more RAM and add Vista 32 HE on my system. NewZEgg had a kickass deal so I installed as normal and FS9.1 statrs with the forward view with just the bottom half of the cessna panel .To fix the view to normal I must change a view and then go back.I am running latest Nvidia driver I think 174.25 w/o n-hancer on a 8800 GT 512.Before I goto deep into into the install with all my addons I want to know if this is a DX10 issue with FS9 using a DX10 compatible crad or I am missing some tweak in Vista.ThanksAndy

Andy,FS9 is a DX9 ONLY title. As such it runs under DX9 in Windows Vista not DX10. I believe what you are experiencing is an issue with the driver for the 8800GT under Vista. The latest WHQL certified driver is 175.16. Perhaps you should give that driver a try.

Thanks for the reply how does Vista utilize a DX9 title without some penalty ... What you are telling me is there is a legacy attachment to the OS to give a user full DX9 support.ThanksAndy

Also should I go back to Winxp b4 going too far so far Vista is running well otherwise. I have always neglected to run n-hancer for I did not want another process going and I felt my AA and AF were working under XP.ThansAndy

I'm definitely not going to tell you what to do for an OS...your choice. ;)N-hancer uses minimal resources and is way more flexible than the Nvidia control panel. I highly recommend you use it.Yes Vista has some built in DirectX backwards compatibility. In order for a title to run in DX10 mode in Vista, you must have DX10 capable hardware (videocard) and the title must support DX10 mode. If both these conditions are not met you are running in DX9 mode.
