Lost Saitek hatswitch panning

Featured Replies

I used to be able to pan around using a hatswitch on my Saitek X36 joystick/throttle combo while in Virtual Cockpit mode, and also while in Spot Plane mode. Now after foolishly trying to make some changes, I have lost this function.I don't think I ever had to set up the hatswitch panning - it just worked that way "straight out of the box".If I try to reenable the panning in the Assignments pages, it just treats the hatswitch as a single switch, not as an 8 way switch. This means whichever way the hatswitch is moved, it always pans in the same direction and only in that direction. Any new assignment for the hatswitch to try to add another pan direction cancels the previous assignment.I have never loaded any specific Saitek control software. The Saitek looks and responds normally in the Windows Control Panel game controller pages.Any ideas on how I can get back where I was? I am using XP and FS9.Thanks--Bryn

Think I have found it. I searched on "pan" in an earlier fs9.cfg and found the linePOV_MOVE_EVENT_00=PAN_VIEWwhile my current cfg line was...=PAN_RIGHTI set it back like the earlier line, and all is now working again. Phew!I'm puzzled that it doesn't seem possible to change that setting from within FS9 itself.Another puzzle: what does PAN_IN_COCKPIT_MODE=1 do? I have seen it mentioned elsewhere, but I don't have it in any of my fs9.cfg files. Edit: OK, tried it and see it lets me pan in 2D mode - a bit disorienting when the panel stays centred on the screen but luckily I had already found the pan reset key when poking around in the Assignments pages (it's shift-numerical pad decimal). So how useful do users find 2D panning?--Bryn
