July 21, 200817 yr Hey yall i'm goin from anA64 3700+ @ 2.8Ghz2Gb PC3200 ramRadeon 4850 512MbtoQ6600 stock4Gb DDR2 PC1066Radeon 4870 maybeI always get STOP errors shortly after POST if I change out the mobo. Even if its the same socket. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I hate doing OS re-installs.
July 21, 200817 yr That's just too much of a change. Generally, any mobo change will require a reinstall.
July 22, 200817 yr Remove as many device drivers as you can and let the system redetect them... it is worh a try.
July 23, 200817 yr If I am reading correctly, you went from AMD to Intel Chip? Normally you can get away with like family to like family, but going from one camp to other I've never had luck with trying to KEEP my XP install :(
July 24, 200817 yr Author I'll try that Jim. I think I attempted that before when I was going from P4C to A64, but it failed. I guess its time to slipstream my XP install. I'm maybe thinking about vista...DirectX 10 and whatnot. I like the feel of it on my laptop. Its not the slow bug prone OS that I thought it was gonna be (think windows ME). Anyone else have an opinion on that OS?
July 24, 200817 yr Vista 64. Get through whatever transitions ya gotta and just be done with it. OOMs be gone too.
