New Rig....preventing STOP errors?

Featured Replies

Hey yall i'm goin from anA64 3700+ @ 2.8Ghz2Gb PC3200 ramRadeon 4850 512MbtoQ6600 stock4Gb DDR2 PC1066Radeon 4870 maybeI always get STOP errors shortly after POST if I change out the mobo. Even if its the same socket. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I hate doing OS re-installs.

That's just too much of a change. Generally, any mobo change will require a reinstall.

If I am reading correctly, you went from AMD to Intel Chip? Normally you can get away with like family to like family, but going from one camp to other I've never had luck with trying to KEEP my XP install :(

I'll try that Jim. I think I attempted that before when I was going from P4C to A64, but it failed. I guess its time to slipstream my XP install. I'm maybe thinking about vista...DirectX 10 and whatnot. I like the feel of it on my laptop. Its not the slow bug prone OS that I thought it was gonna be (think windows ME). Anyone else have an opinion on that OS?

Vista 64. Get through whatever transitions ya gotta and just be done with it. OOMs be gone too.
