Rudder pedals to get?

Featured Replies

Hi,I have recently started trying to fly in my flight sim (FSX) in a much more realistic way rather than just using the easiest settings. I've bought the book "FSX for Pilots: Real World Training" to help me. I only have a joystick, mouse and keyboard at the moment and am finding it hard to do co-ordinated turns using the rudder. I'm finding controlling the rudder with the keyboard is really difficult. Do I need to buy rudder pedals? If so does anyone use the Keybird pedals as these are the cheapest I can find and I am on a tight budget. Would they be worth getting or do I need to get a more expensive set? Many thanks for any feedbackJon

Yes, you need rudder pedals to fly:1. For coordinated turns ("step on the ball" of the turn-and-bankindicator, i.e. if the ball is left-of-center step on the leftrudder pedal).Turn-and.bank indicator: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn_and_bank_indicator2. for cross-wind landings via "sideslip"Sideslip: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side_slip#Sideslip............ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crosswind_landing#SideslipIMHO your best be is the CH Products USB Pedals. They are cheap andsturdy and work just fine.CH USB Pedals: http://www.chproducts.com/retail/pedals.htmlCheers,- jahman.

I agree the CH are great for the price but if you want to spend a little more, the saitek rudder pedals are the best IMO. They have a tension adjust and are spaced further apart like real rudder pedals. they do cost a tad bit more though but check em out at http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/rudder.htm

Thanks both for your replies and the useful links. I'll buy one of the Saitek or CH pedals. thanks

Allow me to extend another vote for the CH pedals. I've had my CH pedals for many years now and have not had a single issue with them. On top of that, I had an apartment fire 2 1/2 years ago and the pedals (and the CH yoke) were the only two computer components to survive without any functional damage. Well constructed and very effective in increasing immersion in the game. CH Products has me as a lifelong customer!-Greg
