September 24, 200817 yr Narrowing down my PC purchase. The builder is giving me the option to have my CPU overclocked, although it would add price. Is this something that is easy enough for me to do? I know some about voltages, etc. Here is the CPU spec:INTEL, Core
September 24, 200817 yr Well for sure you can do it yourself. The most important thing is to go SLOWLY. First, begin with the FSB. As a beginner I could o/c my q6700 to 3.6 without many problems, but you can always ask. Furthermore, I'd recommend this very useful site: http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/
September 26, 200817 yr All you need to do is get this cooler: http://www.directron.com/u120e.htmlAnd a 120 mm fan. Then install the assembly. http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/pro..._u120a.html#775Make sure you have DDR2-800 rated ram, or above. Set your front side buss to 400 and your CPU voltage to 1.45. Leave the rest in auto. Boot-n-run. That'll get you a CPU running at (8 x 400 = ) 3.2 GHz. Yes, it's that simple.
