DVD RW internal drive problem

Featured Replies

My DVD/RW internal drive just went out on me. I'm getting a strange message when I boot up my system. It is saying: " The software you are installing with this hardware:JMicron JMB36X Controllerhas not passed windows logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP. Continuing you installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hdwre vendor for software that has passed Windows logo testing."-Continue Anyway or -STOP INSTALLATIONI chose to 'Stop Installation' and it does nothing. It keeps giving me the same screen information as above over & over again & clicking the STOP INSTALLATION does nothing.....Anybody know what's going on here?If I move the message down to the bottom of the screen, I can use my computer and access my email or google etc., however, I still can't get my CD/RW burner to work. It will light up and spin, but does not even recognize my FSX install disk and when I try to access FS2004, it says: 'Insert disk 4 etc.' and nothing happens.Any ideas?Regards, jack

You could try uninstalling your drive from device manager. Then let windows reinstall it on the next boot up.Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

The software mentioned in the message you quote is what is called a device driver. The JMicron JMB36X Controller is a chip on your motherboard. While it is listed in Windows' Device Manager as a SCSI/RAID controller, it is actually used on modern motherboards to control attached eSATA drives and internal IDE drives. My hunch is that your CD-RW drive is an IDE drive, not a newer SATA drive. It would seem that the JMicron JMB36X software has been corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.I recommend that you ignore the warning message and continue installation anyway. I have seen the same warning, and successfully ignored it, when installing that precise software on the last two computers that I built from scratch. It does not mean the software is certain to harm your computer. It only means JMicron didn't pay Microsoft money to test the software and give it their seal of approval, known as WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certification.Power is supplied by a separate cable directly from the Power Supply, and software doesn't impact that. That's why the light comes on and it spins. Getting data from a disk along a different cable is controlled by the JMicron chip, which requires the JMicron software to work properly. Let that software install, reboot your computer, and you should be back in business. There are harder ways to do this, but try the easy way first.-Doug
