October 19, 200817 yr Hi,I really need help installing new Nvidia drivers. I already had the issue with the previous driver release but now also with the 178.24. I run the installer, the Installing Driver Components progress bar goes immediately to the 50% position, then I just wait for some time while HDD light is flashing, the screen flickers, I wait again (the whole waiting lasts around 5 or more minutes), then the installer gives the finishing page of the Wizard and says "The system has not been modified." What could be the issue? I'm just out of ideas! I could uninstall the drivers via the Nvidia uninstall but I've tried it and it doesn't improve anything. When I restart after that, Vista will just install its own drivers again and that's about it. I will be in exactly the same situation as I am right now. Maybe doing a complete clean-up of Nvidia stuff on my PC would help but I don't know how to do it.Please help me out! Thanks :)
October 19, 200817 yr Ok, I suggest you go first to the GURU3D website, and download the drivercleaner from there. Here is the link, so you don't have to search for it : http://downloads.guru3d.com/Driver-Cleaner...wnload-745.htmlRead carefully the instructions.Next : uninstall the driver.Third : restart the PC as requested, but in SAFE mode (important).Fourth : run DriverCleaner to remove the rogue files remaining on your pc.Finally : restart the PC and install the new drivers. And if this still does not work, come back for some more help.Jan
October 19, 200817 yr Thanks. I did exactly like that and still no better news. I found that I had Spybot TeaTimer & Resident running which could deny some changes to the system, I disabled it. Didn't help either. Windows Defender is also disabled right now.I read from other forums that sometimes it's suggested to format but this is a really bad idea. It means reconfiguration of EVERYTHING as you know and I believe the Windows 98 days should be over by now and we should be able to fix the cause, not just give up and spend a day installing all the stuff again. In addition, someone said that he even got the same error after formatting.Maybe I should update the Nvidia chipset drivers? Perhaps it's causing some trouble for the display drivers?
October 19, 200817 yr Fixed it!!!!Someone from our local Estonian computer forums was able to figure it out. In Vista64 the PhysX software which is installed together with Nvidia drivers causes trouble. Once you run the Nvidia drivers setup and Nvidia unpacks the stuff to C:NVIDIA or whatever you decide to select, you cancel firstly the setup and then navigate to the folder. Just delete the PhysX exe file from there and run the normal Setup.exe from the same folder.
October 19, 200817 yr The release notes for this driver states this is an issue for 64 bit installations. You should ignore the error, click okay, and restart your system.Jim
