  1. The thing with Nvidia is that you need to install the proprietary Nvidia driver. The open source driver is in general not recommended for gaming. In general, Nvidia was the better choice for gaming under Linux four years, but possibly my knowledge is outdated since Steam gaming is working mostly with AMD hardware.
  2. I think you are being unfair. He is clearly stating he is using Claude as a development tool, and is asking specifically technical questions here to improve his understanding of the subject and if what he is getting back is correct. He is not relying on the LLM for this, but merely using it as a starting point ( one has to start somewhere).
  3. If you are a beginner, I recommend Ubuntu or one of its derivatives, it just works out of the box and is easy to keep up to date. And it is the one that Laminar uses to compile xplane. i like gnome myself, but Xubuntu is maybe better if you come from windows.
  4. Mspark, you were right about Wayland. A couple of years ag,) like a decade. The world has moved on, you didn’t. Wayland (and xwayland) have evolved and are now the default for most modern Linux desktops. And most of us are reporting a huge gain in fps, with Wayland. But of course you are you and you pick one example to prove the world otherwise. you are a smart man, I have no doubt, but you are rigid in your opinions. And this makes discussing with you tiresome, I am sorry to say that.
  5. And don’t rely on any LLM for confirmation! This statement is false.
  6. try running anything other then the most basic on that. You won't be able to start x-plane on those mini pcs. at all. granted, x-plane will not run very great on the cheapest mac mini, but it will run with settings tuned down.
  7. I agree with a) some of us are very vocal advocates, but not with b) Linux users tend to know better than most other people how computers work. Also nowadays Linux supports most hardware out of the box, this was different a few decades ago. I would even say that the scale is tipping because you can not install windows 11 on your older but still recent hardware nowadays. And also all the bloatware that comes with Windows, I cringe every time I have to solve a problem on my dad’s laptop.
  8. SDF Global is regionalized autogen, meaning it just replaces Laminar default buildings with more appropriate ones for the region, the placement hasn't changed from default. X-World is using the real world building footprints and uses facades to place buildings on top of them, with additional extra landmarks, like churches, windmills, industrial structures like cooling towers, silo's, ... added to the mix. We don't know yet what X-World pro exactly entails, but we can expect it to build on top of the existing Simheaven (X-World) tech.
  9. This has been tried in the past, Flight Unlimited was a long time my favourite. I believe the same can be achieved with a better, more diverse landclass system. Third party could then fill in the gaps much better than what is possible today. For example the mountain sceneries by Frank Dainese and Fabio Bellini are very detailed but not compatible with some other sceneries, due to the 1 arch limitations in the xplane landclass.
  10. Expecting this to be comparison with real life, I was searching for the screenshots. Then I realized those were not real life pictures, but actually taken in sim! Very well captured, thank you.
  11. The problem being that SFD Global was written for X-Plane 11, and there hasn't been an official update for X-Plane 12. I have only Autogen and Landmarks installed, and dropped Terrain textures and Forests and Forrests. Autogen has been improved for several regions, like New England (US of A), Scandinavia, Mediterranean, Asia, Africa, Caribbean, ... . To get X-Plane 12 trees annotated to the autogen, you have to put a small patch in place which you can find on the org: https://forums.x-plane.org/forums/topic/195634-sfd-global-additional-files-3d-trees-on-autogen-for-x-plane-12/ (my excuses for the direct link to the org). If you want to combine it with X-World, I recommend to overwrite the Library.txt in SFD Global Autogen directory with the one I linked to higher up in this post. For me this adds a lot of variation to the default Laminar models, even in its current state, but I am using it for several years now. I don't know what Laminar is cooking, especially since the developer (MisterX6) joined them. They promised a complete update of the scenery, but only a few parts have been touched up to now.
  12. I agree, but only if you are not using Ortho overlays. The library.txt that I uploaded replaces the outdated and often wrong facades used by XWorld by the SFD global buildings. The disadvantage is that it doesn't always align well with the building footprint. The result is very plausible to my eyes (and I know the region very well). fyi, before you spend money on SFD Global, MisterX made a freeware version for Japan, look for Japan Pro 1.02 on the org. So you can check if it is something for you.
  13. result in the Southern French Alps (Les Alpes de Haute Provence): https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/gfqcbo4kg3wg8tyfm3v46/Aspres_sur_Buech.png?rlkey=5nv300i3exij6dv1qozokjv16&st=5bm0dv9c&dl=1
  14. If you want to combine SFD Global with Sim Heaven X-World for X-Plane 12, I combined a couple of adaptations in one library.txt, to be put in the SFD Global Autogen folder. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/vvc38irtp5vi2r8eq4umc/library.txt?rlkey=pw3i1uagw05eo00zr1zju3a5w&st=rz2qcv47&dl=0 This one works best for me as it includes the Mediterranean area.
  15. And how should the programmers know that this number isn't correct? But I am sure LR is aware and will come up with some clever solution. Best is that you write them a weather bug report.
  16. I don’t get that, but I fly usually in the south of France, where METAR is giving the actual numbers. My screenshot is showing mountains way further away, and probably they are in real life not visible due to haze… 😉 If your nearby airfield is telling 14.5, that’s what you will see in the sim.
  17. I don't think the issue is with X-Plane, in the South of France I get for today: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/7s6mf7blwa1ux66p8zqcq/Soaring-paradise.png?rlkey=qghz1rblbpe5trf75a58bresg&st=3yjdgp8z&dl=0 If the Metar is reporting 14.9, that is what is depicted. Probably Laminar can work this value with some art controls, is this already existing?
  18. Tip, instead of a complete reinstall one can also run the installer against the current folder and let it repair whatever this skunkcraft has broken. Or remove the output and resources folders and let the installer do the rest. xplane is really flexible in this regard as it doesn’t change the windows registry.
  19. Impressive! Especially the tow plane
  20. Simheaven is nice if you use Ortho, but is lacking otherwise. It is really meant to be used with satellite imagery. SFD Global is replacing the default autogen with regional buildings, but is way more diverse for Asia, Southern Europe, Northern Africa etc. When I am using default landclass, I prefer SFD Global, but if I use autoortho or orthoXP, I prefer Simheaven. They are two distinct things. The other day I found an update in the support forum for SFD Global which replaces the 2D style vegetation with the new 3D models for XP12, I only tested South of France but it is very convincing. PS: you can install only the buildings from SFD Global, and use the default XP12 ground textures, because those are not updated for XP12 seasons and variety.
  21. For globally improved autogen I highly recommend FSD Global, by the renowned MisterX. It is originally for xp11 but on the support forum you find several fixes and recommendations for 12.
  22. Just for fun, and as prove that we can indeed detect AI better than AI itself, I counted six times: X-Plane 12 World scenery overhaul in this article. No human would do that, if not because it is too long to type 🙂. But of course for an AI this is not a problem.
  23. Example, I asked ChatGPT: Write an article about how to learn to fly a Cessna on your own and why it is safe and make me laugh How to Learn to Fly a Cessna on Your Own (And Not Die in the Process) So, you've watched Top Gun one too many times, and now you’ve decided to take to the skies. Maybe you're tired of traffic, or maybe you just want to impress your Tinder matches with, “Yes, I fly. No big deal.” Either way, you’ve landed (gently) on the idea of learning to fly a Cessna. Great choice! It's like the Toyota Corolla of the skies — reliable, humble, and gets the job done (without flipping upside down and launching missiles). Let’s break down how you can learn to fly a Cessna mostly on your own — safely — and with a few chuckles along the way. Step 1: Start With a Real Instructor (No, You’re Not Tom Cruise) Yes, this article is about learning "on your own," but let’s get one thing straight: you can’t just hop in a Cessna and take off like it’s Mario Kart in the sky. You need instruction. and so on. Does this style appear familiar? Chatgpt and co can appear very professional and convincing but often it is thin air.
  24. Why we think this is written with the help of AI? First he left his prompt in, second a lot of unnecessary words are used to make a point, third the repetitions when he starts a new paragraph, in a way humans wouldn’t do.
