instrument shadowing
soaring_penguin replied to 4df5's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Xplane is developed on Mac, there shouldn’t be problems, only with some plugins. 12 is a new version, it is not free. But if you bought it very recently, ( like since xp12 came out) the same license key should work. unless you bought it on a steam sale maybe not? you can always try the free demo to see how it fares on your system. -
Which I think is unjust, xp12 isn’t out of beta yet. If I remember correctly, LR is planning to provide a SDK in the future.

This. Nobody said AA is perfect. But stating: it is 2022, so this or that is unacceptable sounds like trolling to me. flickering is a huge issue, you should enter a bug report.

Problem during save, cleaning up.

actually, I think mSparks has a point here, in his own obnoxious view of the world. The engine with FSR is as it is at the moment, implementing vectoring will need another big overhaul, adding another couple of months or years. At the moment they need to focus on obvious bugs and improvements in what they have currently have. LR already made it clear that this is something they plan to look into in the future. And before you say this is 2022, they need to implement it now, this is not how things works. X-Plane 12 has been years in the planning, already in XP11 they implemented Vulkan, XP12 is building on that foundation to improve lighting, performance, reflections, ... while keeping the performance. For sure this is not working for everybody 100% of the time, but this is why we have the beta right now.

World Traffic for XP12 available
soaring_penguin replied to MrBitstFlyer's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Depends on what you call complex, compared to the simplicity of Livetraffic: install and forget, it is. If you don’t file a flight plan within the plug-in, you don’t see traffic Correct me if I’m wrong. -
World Traffic for XP12 available

I reinstalled it and it’s still as complex as it was to get traffic running. I agree, for my purpose, is live traffic the best, and it is free. -
Stroboscopic flashing.

you are on xp12 beta 4? I observed the same flashing of the clouds with default planes ... -
XP12: the good, the bad, the ugly
soaring_penguin replied to Pastaiolo's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
In another post, I learned that lowering texture quality with one notch, will improve (lessen) your VRAM usage and allow for more fps (in that if your VRAM is used up, there is a sharp drop in fps). Only if you have more then 12GB of VRAM, you should put it to the full max, or so is said. -
XP-12 graphics settings.

I tried this, and I gained +/- 10 fps on my aging 1070 (8GB vram). thanks! -
XP12: the good, the bad, the ugly
soaring_penguin replied to Pastaiolo's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
And this is what I meant in the other thread. I do accept positive criticism, but this boils down to: "Laminar has been doing it wrong all this time". Along the development road, there are decisions to be made, and sometimes they turn out not the best for any given problem/solution. The important thing is sometimes that a decision is being made, just to be able to move forward. We don't know what the status of motion vectoring and TAA was at the time off their decision making, and how difficult it is to implement in Vulkan, while keeping interoperability with all the thee OS's, existing hardware and add-ons. My last upgrade was 7 years ago, and I don't have currently the means to upgrade, so yes, interoperability is important for me. BTW, version 12 is running at acceptable levels on my 10 year old Intel i5 and Geforce 1070. Much better then I anticipated (usually above 25, and around 40 outside cities). World-X-Europe does make a heavy hit, I am still considering if I should be using it in the current state of the beta. -
XP12: the good, the bad, the ugly

I think most here accept criticism, as long as it’s funded and we aren’t told that MSFS is doing it so much better, therefore Laminar is doing it completely wrong all along. -
XP12: the good, the bad, the ugly

If you have happen to have SFD Global from mrX , it works. I installed it, but not his Forests. This will give you regional houses, the south of France, the Provence for example, is nicely represented. And I understood he is working on an update for XP12. -
XP12: the good, the bad, the ugly
soaring_penguin replied to Pastaiolo's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
when I said that the next big update will contain additional terrain, I didn’t mean a complete rework with AI generated terrain. LR already confirmed that scenery wise, important parts are missing and those will be added in (one of) the next beta. I hope this will include all three: ground textures, buildings and higher resolution mesh. -

I believe a huge scenery update is coming next, so let’s wait until this happened before judging. how is Vancouver looking in xp11? I would expect it to be similar, after the next update. -
I don't know about the majority of all users, but I am sure the majority of Mac and Linux users are enjoying it. This is a niche were Laminar customers will remain loyal. Even on my 10+ old hardware: Intel® Core™ i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz × 4 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070, I am getting between 25 and 35 FPS in the demo area, downtown included. So performance wise, I have nothing to complain. Except for the sparse trees (something others reported already) I don't have anything to complain about. On the plus side, I observed there is much more traffic on the roads than in XP-11. Moneywise, I currently don't have money to spend, currently we are on a strict budget, also with winter coming. 60$ may not be much to some people, but for me, in the current economic climate, it is a lot. Honestly, if I had the means, I would invest in a beefy new iMac right now, to run XP-12. And I would love to adventure outside the demo area and 15 minutes time window.

X-Plane 12 on 'Short Final'
soaring_penguin replied to Sethos's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Maybe a hardware thread would be suitable here. and ignore mSparks he loves arguing for the sake of it. There’s no base to his claim about Windows. The only factor that would exclude a pc from running XP12 is the hardware and the Vulkan driver, not the OS itself. Windows 7 for example is not suited because there is no up to date Vulkan supported. Otherwise all three main OS are equally supported out of the box. -

You’ll be able to install the free 15 minutes trial, just as always. When paying the full price, you get early access, with all the warnings about possible bugs, but you won’t get to pay again for the final release. What is the problem? -

Probably he is referring to the org. As most of us know, that site is not owned or maintained by Laminar. -

Also no one here is saying illegal software is used. Software making illegal calls to a driver or hardware is something completely different, it is a complicated way to say there is a bug.
