LES dc-3 v2 in my XP12 hangar at last!!
soaring_penguin replied to jcomm's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
there was a freeware DC-3 / C-47 for XP11. Anybody is aware of this has been updated to XP12? -
Ortho4XP 1.4 Alpha now on Github

No. For streaming, you want to look at autoortho. But that one doesn’t fully support xp12 seasons yet. -
X-Plane 12 & Laptops
soaring_penguin replied to Seahawk72s's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
If everything fits within memory, things will not run faster if you get more. What you want to avoid is swapping between the main storage and memory. I am running X-Plane on Linux, and what I can say is that memory use has been heavily optimized since X-Plane 10, back then I easily used 24GB of my 32GB, nowadays I never get passed 16GB, most of the time around 12GB. I don't know how this all works out with the Unified Memory in a Mac, but 32GB should be more than enough IMO. -
X-Plane 12.0.8b2 is available
soaring_penguin replied to Dirk.M's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Of course it is allowed! Maybe it is a language thing, but my impression was you expected Avsim to fix your issue. -

Again, in a forum like this, you can expect advice from peers. If you want this to be addressed, you have to contact the proper person. You can throw out the offending plugin and continue flying the simulator, or roll back the beta. -

But maybe this is not the place to report a bug. That is something you need to do with the developers, either LR, or the maintainer of the plugin causing the problem. You can say : hey look what I found, it looks like bug, and I reported it to … . you can’t expect this place to be a place for bug reports, because nobody will follow up. And reactions like: it must be you , can be expected ( but I don’t approve of those, I prefer some helpful advise). -
More passing aircrafts?

My recommendation: get the LiveTraffic plugin, it’s free and fills the sky with realtime movements. -
X-Plane 12.06 Is Full of Many Things

The usage of the number of cpu cores has nothing to do with the OS, just saying. -

I have to correct, my comment was about flying carpet’s input that it is a feature, not a bug. -

Efis007 update was humor, not a defence for LR. IF you took his post as a reason to attack X-Plane fans, you do have a problem… . -
Installing Linux for X-Plane
soaring_penguin replied to jarmstro's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
On another topic: don't try to upgrade to Ubuntu 23.04, 22.04 and 22.10 were working fine, but with this last one several of us, me included, have problems running X-Plane 12 succesfully, with Vulkan devices error messages. -
Cockpit exposure.
soaring_penguin replied to Murmur's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
And I want to add that to a certain degree I agree that the cockpit could be too dark at times, it needs more tweaking. At the other hand the idea how to implement this is imo an improvement over previous models. -
Cockpit exposure.
soaring_penguin replied to Murmur's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Actually Yes, it is important to understand how an effect is reached. Because the solution for your problem would be very different. And you would understand that although the result is the same, the underlying technology is vastly different. to stay in your analogy you can add too much salt or swap sugar by salt. In both cases the meal is ruined, but the cause is different because the recipes are different ( one recipe needs a little salt, the other needs sugar). This not hard to understand neither… -
Cockpit exposure.
soaring_penguin replied to Murmur's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Efis , it is you who has a problem with this implementation. Most of us find it acceptable. Okay, it might need some tweaking from the part of LR. But please stop trying to convince others with pages and pages of dull descriptions. If I didn’t have an issue at first, I certainly don’t like to be convinced that there is one now. Then after pages of dull photographers jargon, you refuse to talk about the different programming techniques being used ? If there is an audience for this, it is LR and their lead programmers. Thank you. -

Wonderful experience.
soaring_penguin replied to Ianrivaldosmith's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Efis, I would suggest that you open your own topic in the forum to describe your problem, instead of hijacking a positive one. Each and every discussion here is taken over by someone who has to say something negative about xplane. I don’t say there are no issues, but I do have an issue when someone else’s topic is hijacked to repeat the same complaints over and over.- 82 replies
