October 24, 200817 yr Friends,I have a ATI HD4870... with the version 8.10 ATI drivers (newer)... But my FS2004 its with very very "Shimmering" effects... in the autogen and and in some textures of payware airports... (all... only in payware! for example Mega Frankfurt, by Aerosoft, and Vienna, by FlyTampa...The effects of scintillation its more visible in fences and antennas... and buildings...I have everything and I could not solve the problem...My configs in CCC (setting AA only in FS, the image is horrible!):AA- 8XAF- 16XCatalyst A.I.- StandardMipmap Detail- High QualityWait for vertical refresh- Off, unless...Adaptive AA- QualityMy system:INtel Q9300Motherboard Asus P5B-Plus4GB RAMATI HD4870FS9 Res: 1440x900x32So... can someone help me?Thanks...[ ]sAndrade
October 24, 200817 yr I run fsx but try these as I had/have the same problem and card.I have a 32 inch lcd tv.Open the tvs menu and turn down the sharpness. Also turn down the mipmap detail level in the catalyst settings.Try experimenting by turnng DOWN settings one by one. When I ran fs9 and had a 8800gt,we used nhancer andfooled with the mipbias. It kinda blurs the picture some but beats that awfull shimmering.Good luck.PS-Yeah I just saw your settings and you are probably over doing it.Try turning them down as alot of times high detail settings just amplify the visual problems.
October 24, 200817 yr I already tried all... :-(None success... :-(the flicker persists... in airports like LOWW (FlyTampa), Mega Frankfurt (Aerosoft), and many others...And the ATI Tray Tools? Will he can solve this problem?
November 5, 200817 yr I have a PowerColor 4870 1GB and don't have that problem. I am using the 8.9 CCC release. I turned Adaptive AA on an the IQ is actually better in FSX.You could try ...1. different driver release2. turn Adaptive AA off3. use different resolution4. in CCC move that slider to Performance and then back to Quality and try the sim without making any other changes in the CCC.In FSX use AA and Trilinear filtering.
February 1, 200917 yr Sorry to bump this but I have the same card as you OP and sadly also have the shimmering problem..Changed pretty much every setting in ATI Tray Tools, but to no avail :(Anyone found a fix? I'm close to returning my 4870 and getting a GTX 260 instead :/
February 1, 200917 yr Open up the Catalyst Control Centre, 3D Tab in Advance Settings and select the Anti-Aliasing tab.At the bottom of the selection window, choose "Edge-detect" - this helped a lot with shimmering when it was first highlighted on the net. You can experiment with the slider - but I've found the middle-setting (4X, Samples:12) works well without too much of a performance hit.BTW - In FSX itself, I've got AA disabled, and AF set to Trilinear. The Catalyst Control Centre is set to ignore application settings - with AA as above, and AF set to 4X. Adaptive AA and Catalyst AI are both enabled.I'm also using the latest ATI drivers - V9.1
