Need Help Triple Boot and Boot.ini file

Featured Replies

I'm triple booting between XP Pro 64 on Drive C (Disk 1), XP Pro 32 on Drive D (Disk 2), and a cloned copy of XP Pro 64 on Drive E (Disk 3). No matter what I do, my XP Pro 64 selection in the boot menu always boots up from Drive E (Disk 3), and I want the OS loaded on Drive C, Disk 1, to boot it (it's a newer drive). Can someone take a look at my Boot.ini file and tell me why this might be so? Even Acronis Disk Manager v10 doesn't get it right. Thanks you![boot loader];timeout=5default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)WINDOWS[operating systems];multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional on Raptor" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect;multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional with 4GB" /fastdetect /NoExecute=AlwaysOff /4GB /Userva=2322multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional x64 Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Looking at your boot.ini, you've installed XP x64 on the 3rd drive (rdisk2 as specified, as drive numbers start at 0), and that drive is listed as the first drive in your BIOS that is looked at for a boot record. You state you have three drives - are they definately three seperate drives, and sure one of the drives is not just a partition? If you're sure you installed XP x64 on the first drive also, you can change the boot.ini to the following to boot from that:timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWSmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 on Raptor" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional 32" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (Cloned)" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectThe above boot ini will present you with three options at bootup and 30 seconds to choose one of the options.Hope that helps.

Right, there is no partitioning; there are literally 3 physical drives. Thank you, Carl -- I'll give it a try!
